Confucius (551-479 BC), born in Qufu, Shandong, China, was a philosopher and educator in the late Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history. He was the founder of Confucianism, and a great master of ancient Chinese culture and thoughts. He compiled or revised the Five Classics including the Spring and Autumn Annuals. He founded private schools, breaking with the tradition of education being a privilege enjoyed by the aristocracy. Later generations honored him as the Sage Confucius and the Model Teacher for All Ages. |
