01、“敲门”英语该怎么说？

正确的表达是：

①knock on the door

②knock at the door 

（美式口语中常用来表示敲门声）

例句：

①He knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.

他敲了敲门，等待有人回应。

②She heard a knock at the door, so she opened it to see who was there.

她听见有人敲门，就把门打开看看是谁。

英文释义：going from one house or building in an area to another（挨家挨户（的），逐户（的））

从一个门到另外一个门

也就是从这个家到另外一个家

所以译成“挨家挨户”很贴切

例句：

He was a door-to-door salesman before he became an actor.

他当演员之前是个上门推销产品的推销员。

03、close/shut the door on sth

英文释义：to make it impossible for something to happen, especially a plan or a solution to a problem使（尤指计划或解决方案）成为不可能

例句：

There are fears that this latest move might have closed the door on a peaceful solution.

人们担心这一最新动向或许已关闭了和平解决问题的大门。

04、open the door to sth

open the door是开门的意思

加上介词to/for，就会衍生更多的含义

open the door to sth

可以解释为：

to make something possible

（使…成为可能）

open the door for sb/sth意思则是：

为...开门、提供机会/方便

例句：

①These discussions may well open the door to a peaceful solution.

此番讨论或许可以完全打开和平解决问题的大门。

05、show sb the door

英文释义：to make it obvious that you do not want someone to be present and that they should leave赶走（某人）；请（某人）离开

直译：把某人引导到门口

但我们要区分两个不同的表达

不可将两者混淆

①show sb. the door：（因不受欢迎而）撵某人出去、对某人下逐客令

例句：

When I told my bank that I wanted to borrow $100,000 they showed me thedoor.

我告诉银行我想借10万美元时，他们直接让我走人。

②show sb. to the door：把某人送到门口

例句：

I can't find the way out,can you show me to the door？

我找不到出去的路了，你能送我到门口吗？
