 前言 

在这“暑隆万物，茂育怀任”的火热季节里，活水永流一一之宁中西文化交流协会美术作品邀请展在华之宁先生的故乡一一惠山美术馆顺利举办，自然有着多重的意涵；而华先生的艺术理念与求索精神的导引与延续，在抗疫斗争仍处于胶着状态的今天，对于中西文化的交流来说，更具有独特的现实意义。

 本次展览的第一部分精心甄选了华先生作品十八幅，从早期的临摩到中期的开拓，以至后期的泼墨抽象，华之宁先生是融会发展中西艺术的开拓者和亲历亲为者。她于创作、教学、研究诸方面都作了卓有成效的探索，取得了很显著的成就，并成为故乡又一座傲然挺立的艺术之峰。

 活水，是先生创作的动力和理念。本次展览命名为“活水永流”，亦是作为对先生辞世二周年的纪念；本次展览同时也是之宁中西文化交流协会第六届会员作品邀请展，参展的国画、油画作品，遵循华先生的方向，以多样的风格和多元的艺术语言，诠释各自对生活的领悟，探寻艺术表现的多种途径。一些作品妙手偶得、尽露风华，笔随时代墨显精神，传承与创新相得益彰，展现了积极向上的精神风貌和深厚的文化底蕴。以图汇一片新绿，予当今画坛平添一抹新鲜亮色！

 更为特别的是，我们还邀请到九位来自美囯洛杉矶的画家，他们提供的二十三幅作品参加了云展厅的展览，通过京东方BOE画屏的方式出现在展厅，展示了美国艺术家在艺术上的探索和创新。从“简”、“凝神”、“艺术无界”、“寻径探幽”，到“跨越弘远”，其精神之心香当历千万载，共吴山而常驻，与蓉湖而同光，“活水永流”！

 仰望星空，俯首努力，求证艺术的源头，寻找发掘中西文化交汇的各种可能，并发扬光大之，以此纪念华之宁这位慈祥、幽默的文化巨子，当为我们这些后进者的责任！

PREFACE

 This summer, “Living Water Forever”, an exhibition dedicated to the memory of Artist Ruby H. Wang, will take place in her hometown at the Huishan Cultural Center.  Ruby’s artistic expression and spirit of discovery continue to give guidance and meaning to the Association established in her name—especially in the midst of the challenges posed by the worldwide pandemic.

 For this year’s exhibition, 18 of Ruby’s paintings were selected, representing her earlier foundational style, then periods of expansion and experimentation, then to her later “splash ink” abstraction stage.  But beyond being representative, this exhibition shows her to be a true pioneer in integrating Chinese and Western aesthetics.  She was prolific in her creativity, teaching, exploration and experimentation, which cemented her place as a leading artist in her hometown.

 Living Water can properly be understood as the source of Ruby’s creative power and vision.  This exhibition is entitled “Living Water Forever” as a way to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Ruby’s passing.  It also serves as an opportunity to facilitate the 6th exhibition sponsored by the East-West Cultural Exchange Association.

 Works by participating artists follow in the spirit of Ruby’s creative legacy and include: oil painting, mixed media, and a wide range of experimental and exploratory techniques that fully express the artist’s interpretation of life and personal experiences.  Some pieces are clever and unique, some carry the spirit of contemporary Chinese writing, some reflect the complementary blending of old and new.  All demonstrate a forward-thinking, positive outlook and spirit undergirded by a deep cultural heritage.  They are like fresh, green shoots that add a touch of vibrant color to the modern art scene.

To make this show even more special, nine individual American artists from Los Angeles have submitted works and will participate live in this exhibition.  Their 23 paintings will be displayed via BOE (“Best on Earth”) screens which will virtually showcase their artistic expression and innovation.

 Sentiments like “simplicity”, “focused”, “boundless art”, “searching and exploring secret paths”, “surpassing time and space” all coalesce to form the fragrance of her spirit, which will last for generations, strong and lasting like the Wu Mountains and shining like Ronghu Lake, “Living Water Forever”!

 Whether gazing at the starry skies above or focused with heads down and working hard, whether seeking after originality or searching for all the possibilities of East-West cultural exchange, increasing and shining ever more brightly is how we remember Ruby, a kind and winsome cultural giant.  Her legacy in the art world serves as our model; carrying it forward is our responsibility.
