引言 本期导学小纸条的内容启发自双十一时浏览了李现代言的彪马（PUMA），联想到当初学习《新概念英语3》时的课文《A Puma at Large 逃遁的美洲狮》。 都说学习来源于生活，而英语的积累可能也是从生活中的一点点兴趣开始，所以本期我们就来回顾一下这一篇经典的文章。 【Words and Expression】 单词和表达
puma “Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. ” “cat-like”属于合成形容词，“像猫一样的”即“猫科动物”的意思，类似的词还有：
“childlike”形容人“可爱的”，是一个褒义词；与其一个很相似的单词“childish”，表示“不成熟的”immature。  jaguar [ˈdʒæɡjuə(r)] 美洲豹  cougar [ˈkuːɡə(r)] 美洲狮 02 at large 'a puma at large'中的'at large'可以理解为“out of control”，无法无天、逍遥自在的。普法节目中常出现的一句话： 'The murderer is still at large.' 凶手依旧逍遥法外。 我们常用来表示“逃跑”的单词或词组还有：escape（逃跑）、flee away（跑开）、scatter away（四散逃窜）、evade tax（逃税）、cut class（逃课）... 03 spot n.点，斑点 美人痣：a beauty spot 太阳黑子：solar spot 'A leopard will never change its spot.' 本性难改。 【spotlight】 n.聚光灯; 聚光灯照亮的地方; 聚光灯照明圈; 媒体和公众的注意 “Jackie Chan is in the spotlight in Chinese fiml industry.”='Jackie Chan achieves a lot of attention in Chinese film industry.' 04 oblige v.使...感到必须 “feel obliged to do sth.”有义务做某事 Men feel obliged to take responsibility for his parents.人们有义务赡养自己的父母。 9-year's compulsory education：九年制义务教育 05 hunt v. 打猎，狩猎 hunt for = go hunting for：寻找，搜寻 “hunt for a job”、“hunt for a love” job hunter（找工作的人）、head hunter（猎头）、bargain hunter（专买便宜货的人） 06 corner n.角落，墙角 at/on the corner：在墙角、拐角。 around the corner：即将到来的，2020's spring festival is around the corner. “The Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land.” 黑人依旧在美国社会的角落中饱受痛苦，仿佛是自己家乡土地上的流浪者。 'The Negro'对黑人的不敬称谓，泛指全体。 “languishing” adj.饱受痛苦的。 “exile” n.流浪者。 v.使(人或动物)走投无路; 逼…入绝境 文中例句：“A puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered.”除非美洲狮被逼入绝境，否则它不会攻击人类。 “A cornered beast will do something desperate.” 狗急跳墙。 07 trail n.痕迹，印记 a trail of：一串，一系列 a trail of blood、a trail of mud 'Wherever he went, the playboy left behind him a trail of broken hearts.' 无论这个花心的男孩走到那儿，他的身后总是留下一串破碎的心。 第1次出现的名词（playboy）作主语，应放在主句的位置，而非从句的位置。 结局 《A Puma at Large 逃遁的美洲狮》的新单词和经典表达已经全部在本期内容中，下一期我们将继续学习这篇文章，着重于文章句式的理解和分析，再见。 南京理工大学本科生学业指导中心 |
