trump：Your trump card is something powerful that you can use or do, which gives you an advantage over someone. If you trump what someone has said or done, you beat it by saying or doing something else that seems better.

 追根溯源 

在古罗马时代，当打了胜仗的将军回到罗马城时，就会举行隆重的凯旋仪式，这个仪式在拉丁语里被称为triumphus，英语单词triumph（成就、胜利）就来自这里。

单词trump是从triumph变化而来，16世纪20年代起开始用来表示某些纸牌游戏中的“王牌、主牌”，可以用trump card，复数trumps则可以表示“王牌花色、主牌花色”，即该花色下的所有牌为王牌。做动词时表示出王牌赢别人，引申为胜过、打败。
