以a字母开头的形容词，如＇ asleep...

以a字母开头的形容词，如' asleep', 'alone ' 等只能做表语。如：

The two brothers are very much alike.
Although old, he is very much alive.

我们不可以说：
× an asleep child
× an alive fish

这样的形容词有很多，比如：alike, alone, asleep, alive, aglow alone, afraid, asleep, aware, awake 等等。

不过，该形容词前面有副词修饰的时候，也可以连同副词一起用作名词的修饰语。比如我们可以说：
the fast asleep a child

the wide awake patient
