你懂的，拥有一片种着当地果蔬的土地 you know, have native plants mixed among fruit trees 你可以看到，本地的植物 so we've got you know, natives here
我们有树番茄 we got a tamarillo here
还有...香蜂草，一些本地品种 we got , [...], [...] and bee balm, natives 这里还有一棵甘蓝树 We've got a cabage tree here
这是一棵...呃一棵松树 This is a... uh a pine nut 超市里的松子仁很贵 So those are really expensive nuts you get in the supermarket
这是这里需要花上十年才能收获的果树之一 This is one of those that takes about ten years to get any fruit on it or any nuts 真是一个长期的项目 So that's a long term project. 看这边，有一棵无花果树 And then we've got, over here, we've got a fig tree.
挂果相当好 Which is fruiting quite nicely. 这边还有一棵角豆树 And another carob tree here
为了观赏王蝶 And then for the monarch butterflies 我们在这里种了一些气球花 We've got a couple of swan plants
它们很喜欢 which they really enjoy real much 我们今天很幸运能够见到一只王蝶 so we'd be lucky to see one 它飞过来了 Here he comes now... 在现实生活里，有很多小小的美好时刻 There was a lot of little moments of realization 我看过一些纪录片和电影 I saw a few documentaries and movies 那些都是关于大局问题的 that were about some of the bigger picture issues 但是当你在企业界的时候 But when you're in the corporate world 你会忙于工作，为了达成特定的目标，无暇顾及生活 And you're so busy with your life and achieving certain things 陷在里面很难脱身 it's hard to get off that train 我的妻子贝奇和我 Beth, my wife and I
我们都曾在企业式的生活中 we sort of had grown over the corporate lifestyle 陷入拥有-追求的死循环里 and the trap of having and wanting more... 所以我们就想“好吧，那就切断我们已知的的联系” So we thought "Ok, let's just cut our ties from what we've known" and... 我们工作很多年了 we'd been working for many years 我们想“好吧！开启新生活” We thought "Ok... let's just...start a fresh" 我们之前来过新西兰很多次 So we'd been to New Zealand a number of times previously 我们都觉得新西兰是一个很好的、从新开始的好地方 And we just thought that's a great place to...just start, 我们寻找其他的生活方式 we'll look at alternatives 过更加简单，更加可持续的生活 and live a simpler, more sustainable life 探索外面的广大世界 And just explore what's out there. 我被这样的想法深深击中 I was then the realization sort of hit home 我开始更多的研究 I started to research more 阅读更多的相关文章 read, you know, hundreds of articles 观看了上百部纪录片及类似的东西 and watch hundreds of documentaries and sorts of stuff. 我逐渐了解了一些知识 Then i started to really understand ： 噢，这里有一些严重的问题 "Wow,We got some serious issues here..." 没有人真正讨论这些问题 And no one's really talking about this stuff 有点难以置信 and it's quite scary 我们在这边养了鸡 In here we got our chickens
有两个品种 We've got two breeds 这个品种是brown shader we've got a brown shader which is these ones here 这个品种是Araucans And then over here we've got Araucanas 这边是一些小鸡 And over here we have little chicks 前两天才孵出来 that have just hatched in the last two days 你可以在下面看到它们 You can see them down here 这边是鸡场 Ok the chicken yard here... 你可以看到这里有许多杂草 You can see there's lots of weeds 小灌木丛,不是... and little shrubs and what not and... 我们栽了许多 We've planted some... 边缘有10-12英尺（约3米-3.6米）的灌木丛 there was about 10 or 12 feet Java bushes around the edge 用来保护这些小鸡 To give them some protection. 这边有一棵胡桃树 There's a walnut tree down there 小鸡们都很喜欢 But now you know the chickens love it.

I'm in a position to be able to do this 很多人都没有这样奢侈的机会 A lot of people who don't have the luxury of being able to have time to... 有时间去研究，提出想法和解决问题 research and...come up with ideas and solutions 这些是我一直想要去实现的 so...That's what i'm trying to achieve 我看了2007年上映的一部纪录片，叫做《石油危机》 I saw a documentary back in 2007 called A Crude Awakening 讲述的是石油危机以及石油资源枯竭 that was talking about the oil shock and resource depletion on peak oil 它激发了我对能源方面的兴趣 And that really got me interested in the whole energy side of things 我读了很多能源方面的书 I read lots of books on energy 看来很多纪录片和很多文章 and watched lots of documentaries and lots of articles 朴门永续设计看起来能够解决这个问题 And it just seemed that permaculture kept popping up as a solution. 此后我开始研究朴门永续设计，并了解到 Then I started to research permaculture and realized that
这是一个能够解决我们怎样生活的综合方法 It was an integrated approach to how we're living 我们当今的社会 So at the moment, our current society... 生活的方式是不完整的 It's a fragmented approach to living 所有的东西都被隔离开来了 So everything's compartimentalised or separated 然而朴门永续是用一个整体观来看待我们的生活方式 whereas permaculture is a holistic approach to how we're living. 它整合了食物 It integrates food, 环境 environment 和你自己的生活方式 with your lifestyle 关心人们 and taking care of, you know, people, 关心地球 the planet 关心自然资源 and the natural resources 我真的 So I really... 真的 That really... 被深深击中，我真心地认为 hit home and I just really thought that was... 那是能够是我们继续前进地解决方法 that was one of the solutions for moving forward 这边是葡萄 Over here we've got some grapes
已经栽了有一年半了 and we've had these in for about a year and a half 你可以看到这是我们生产的第一批葡萄 and this is our first decent yield of grapes as you can see here

我们的健康，整个生态系统和环境 our health, and our whole ecosystem and environment 如果我们开始做一件小事 so if we can start doing something small like 甚至如果... even if you... 如果你住在郊外，拥有一小块土地 if you just live in the suburbia and you got a small block 你都可以种植食物 you can start growing food 如果你住在公寓里 Even if you're in an apartment you can 可以种在窗台上，容器里等等 you know,windowsills, pots whatever 你可以开始第一步 you can start, and that's the first step 一旦你参与到种植与体验自然中 once you engage with growing and experiencing nature 你就会发现一些改变 Then things start to happen to you 它就像一朵花 and it's like a...like a flower 开始成长，越来越茁壮 it starts, you know growing, getting bigger 然后开始改变其他东西 and then that leads to something else. 选择很多，尽情探索吧 So get out there and explore because there are options 我们能够了解我们并没有被困住 We just have to have the capacity to realize that we're not stuck 我们能改变 and we can change 只需放手去做就好 and just... just do it !

我吃大量的蔬菜 We have lot of vegetarian meals 它们都很新鲜，有机和营养 and it's all fresh, organic，produced 我们过上了少消费主义的生活方式 So we also live a less consumerist lifestyle 我们不需要太多的东西 So we don't need as much stuff 我们不需要对物质的不断渴望 So I haven't got this constant craving for more and more things 来使我们开心和满足 to make me feel satisfied or happy 这种生活方式在这里是有效的 This lifestyle working on the land and... 朴门永续的生活让我感到更有收获 doing permaculture It feels more rewarding 就好像是我还给自然很多东西 and like I'm putting something back with a lot of... 现代社会不停地从自然要、要、要 current society it's take take take 而这种生活方式，我觉得是长期地、 And with this sort of lifestyle I feel like this is long term 一点一点地还回去 I'm putting something back. 这就做好啦 So... there you have it. 我们有家庭自种的沙拉 We have home grown salad
水果沙拉，谷物沙拉和一些鸡蛋 fruit salad, grain salad and some eggs 我现在仍觉得难以置信 and I can't believe still that 我甚至都不用去超市购买 I don't have to go to the supermarket. 才三年，我们就种出了这些蔬菜 We've grown all this ourselves in just 3 years. 我仍然很惊讶 I'm still amazed. 每个人都可以做的
