Can any good come from engaging with internet trolls?

Is a troll someone you don't agree with?

No. A troll is someone who is deliberately and provocatively contrary. They are not interested in a genuine discussion, as someone with a differing opinion might be.

Sometimes they will stalk you from post to post. That is just creepy.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience. Hit DEL and be done with.

I tend to ignore them. Most trolls set out to generate a reaction. It is a form of attention-seeking behavior akin to a toddler tantrum. The inflamed sensibilities and horrified responses are what ultimately gratifies them. It makes them feel valued because people appear to care about what they said and it validates their sense of self-worth.
