人生少不了的是尝试，尝试的英文大家都知道是try，除了动词的try，还可以用名词形式：give it a try; have a try等等。此外，我们还可以说：make an attempt，也是“尝试”之意。

今天我们要讲的是一个地道的英文习语，表达的意思就是“To have a try at; make an attempt”：

give it a shot

尝试一下

Let's give it a shot. We've nothing to lose.

我们试一下吧。又不会失去什么。

A: Do you want to try driving the car,
to see how you like it?

你要不试一下开这辆车，看看你是否喜欢？

B: Yeah, sure, I'll give it a shot.

哦，当然，我要试一下。

I know this is really hard,
but if I don't try,
I'll never know if I have what it takes to make it,
so I've decided to give it a shot.

我知道这事真的很难，
但如果我不尝试，我永远都不知道我是否有能力做到，
所以，我还是决定尝试一下。

可以把其中的it换成具体的内容：

give sth. a shot

尝试做某事

You should give painting a shot.

你应该尝试一下画画。

如果我们把这个习语换个形式，说：

give someone a shot

这时，这个习语的意思就是：to let someone have a try; togive someone a chance to try，也就是“让某人试一试”之意。

Are you willing to give me a shot?

你愿意让我试一下吗？

最后再来一个变体：

giveit/sth. one best shot

这个习语的意思就变成了：try as hard as one can to dosomething，即“尽某人最大努力做某事”。

Give it your best shot – that’s all you can do.

全力以赴去尝试吧——你只能这么做了。

Don't worry about being new, just give it your best shot.

别担心你是新手，尽最大努力就好了。
