1 wear way too much perfume 擦太多香水了

She wears way too much perfume. 她擦太多香水了。

2 reek of 有...的臭气，带有明显...气味

It's not even good pefume. She reeks of lavender. It's like I'm being suffocated by my Nan. 她涂的不是什么好香水。散发出薰衣草的味道，那感觉就像我被我祖母身上的气味给熏得窒息了。

3 smell lovely 闻起来不错

She smells lovely. I think it's Chanel or something. 她身上闻起来不错。我觉得是香奈儿之类的。

4 suffocate/'sʌfəkeɪt/ vt. 压制，阻碍；使……窒息 vi. 受阻，受扼制；窒息

His perfume really suffocates me. 他的香水味让我窒息。

I saw a TV programme on perfume once and in Paris they take it really seriously. When they talk about it, they describe it as having notes. There are top notes, which are the scents you first notice, middle notes, which are the scents that linger after the top notes and also base notes which mix with the middle notes but are not necessarily perceivable until about half an hour after you've put the perfume on. 我曾经看过一个关于香水的电视节目。在巴黎，人们很重视香水，说到香水，人们会提及香水的香调。前调，就是你最初闻到的香味；中调就是在前调之后散发的香味；后调就是混合着中调的香味，可能在擦香水半小时之后才能闻出来。

7 put smells into words 把气味用语言描述出来

It's difficult to put smells into words. 很难用语言把气味描述出来。

8 hit the nail on the head 一语中的，切中要害，一针见血

It's a bit like describing music, and it's hard to hit the nail on the head.这有点像是描述音乐，很难一语中的。

（这句起源于罗马的成语形容，我们敲钉子的时候得正敲在钉子头部才能钉准。所以当有人说话一针见血时，我们就会说他像敲钉子一样准。）

香水小知识：

法国南部小城格拉斯是法国香水的摇篮。香奈儿5号香水就诞生于此。香水按照香型可以分成：单花型，混合花型，植物型，柑橘型，东方型，森林型；

按照浓度分成：香精、香水、淡香水、古龙水、清香水
