【原】raise 和 rise 都有“上升”的意思，但它们上升的动力不一样

Raise 和 rise 都表示从低级到高级，指的是水平、地位、数量或力量等的提高，但它们有本质的区别？因为 raise 是及物动词，顾名思义后面要接宾语，而 rise 是不及物动词，也就是要独来独往，这也许就是为什么 raise 比 rise 多一个字母“a”，可能暗示 raise 要接宾语。

一、raise

Raise 作动词时，是一个规则变化动词，表示使升高，指有“外力”使某物上升，宾语可以是具体的，也可以是抽象的，意为“提升，举起，增加，提高”等，例如：

If you have a question, please raise your hand.

如果你有问题，请举手。

He raised his eyebrows, as if surprised.

他扬起眉毛，好像很惊讶。

How can we raise standards in schools?

我们怎样才能提高学校的水平？

The government plans to raise the age of retirement from 65 to 67.

政府计划把退休年龄从65岁提高到67岁。

They have raised their prices every year since they were founded.

二、rise

Rise 作动词时，是一个不规则变化动词，表示升高，指在没有外力情况下某物自己上升，可以指物理的升高，也可以只意为“增加”，因此主语可以是具体的，也可以是抽象的，例如：

I like to rise at 6am, but my husband stays in bed until 8am.

我喜欢早上6点起床，但我丈夫一直睡到8点。

If it doesn't stop raining, the river will rise and overflow.

如果雨不停，河水就会涨溢。

Hot air rises.

热空气上升。

John rose from his chair when Mary walked in.

玛丽走进来时，约翰从椅子上站了起来。

Jane has risen in her company very quickly and is now CEO.

简在公司里升职很快，现在是首席执行官。

Prices are rising all the time.

物价一直在上涨。

三、两者的区别

1. raise 是及物动词，后面要接宾语，而 rise 是不及物动词，后面不接宾语，可以把它们放到同一个句子中识别，例如：

We raise the flag when the sun rises, and we lower it when the sun goes down.

太阳升起时我们升起国旗，太阳落下时我们降下国旗。

The helicopter rose into the air, raising the survivors out of the water.

直升飞机升到空中，把幸存者从水中救出。

2. 当两者作名词时是一样的，只是 rise 是英式英语，raise 是美式英语，所以 pay rise 和 pay raise 是一样的，例如：

Did you get a 4% pay rise last year?

你去年工资涨了4%？

She worked really hard to get a rise in her career.

她非常努力地工作，以期在事业上有所提升。

My boss said he's giving me a pay raise next month.

我老板说他下个月给我加薪。
