Since the technology of HPHT growth of diamonds has matured, in the 1980s, the United States and Switzerland have developed growing plants to extract the carbon contained in the hair and ashes, process it into graphite, and place it in the graphite column as a carbon source. Inside the HPHT chamber, diamonds grow from the bottom, they are called "life diamonds". However, it has not been able to be promoted in large quantities until now. The reason is that consumers do not have enough trust. It is doubtful that the whole grown diamond that are actually made of raw materials which provided by the customers? Will it be incorporated with industrial carbon sources? This factor has made life diamonds unsuccessful in mass promotion for decades.

Technically, the consumer must be convinced that the diamonds he obtained were grown entirely from the materials he provided. The current HPHT can grow several pieces diamond at the same time. A HPHT reactor cell requires a lot of carbon sources, especially the hair method. It is difficult for consumers to provide a large amount of hair. Manufacturers dare not emphasize that 100% of the carbon sources are provided by the consumers. The solution is to use very small HPHT machines to grow one diamond at a time, supervise and authenticate the diamond by a notary, proving that this diamond is entirely made of materials provided by the consumers.

The scale of this market is first estimated by the wedding model. There were 8.13 million couples married in China in 2020. If 1% of the new couples accept wedding diamonds, there will be more than 80,000 transactions, requiring a total of 160,000 pieces of diamond. One press grows one stone of one carat size. On average, a diamond needs to grow for one week. A machine can grow 52 stones a year. 160,000 pieces require more than 3,000 small HPHT machines. Basically, the price of a six-sided small press of the 420mm bore size is estimated to be about RMB 500,000 per set, so the total investment is RMB 1.5 billion.

For the hair, please ask the couples to collect their hair from each haircut within a few months. Pets can also collect the hair. The ashes after cremation of relatives or pets can undergo the following procedures to extract carbon and purify into graphite at high temperature, use HPHT machines to grow diamonds.

Carbon purification of life diamonds and hair diamonds:

1) Washing, drying and grinding hair or ashes
2) Crude purification into carbon by acid-base method
3) High temperature refined to graphite

The price of life diamonds can be similar to the price of natural diamonds. Consumers can also specify to make colored diamonds. Each is about 30,000 to 40,000 RMB. In China, such as the above-mentioned demand, the annual output value is about 5 billion RMB. After deducting expenses and taxes, there is still a profit of more than 3 billion RMB.

This industry needs some group specializing in investment, planning, and promotion. Wedding and commemorative diamonds should be divided into different companies to operate. Wedding diamonds can invite well-known celebrities to endorsements, and make a lot of publicity. Commemorative Diamonds can be promoted in various media and pet hospitals.
