英语阅读(越读)：一些和食物相关的俚语(1) A tough nut

下面这些小短语正好是用来练习英语“越读”，用英语“越多”，即用英语学英语记英语的，而不是仅仅停留满足于“我懂它的中文意思了”。

因为我们基本可以肯定，这些小短语就算再实用再地道，我们在平时的生活工作中也基本用不上，所以“只懂得”，“只记住”它们的中文意思没有多大意义。我们唯一可以“用”的，就是借助对它们的学习正好可以把我们已知的学过的英语“用起来”，“用”英语记住它们(记英语)。

不要连这点自己用英语的机会都不给自己。

一、怎么知道自己“读懂”了。

1.Tough nut to crack 棘手的问题；难以理喻和对付的人；

2.(A) baker’s dozen 十三；

二、英语“越读”，用(已知的学过的)英语“越多

查英英字典或synonym字典，“找到”已知的学过的英语，再用英语学英语，“说”英语

1) Tough nut to crack 棘手的问题

这里面有你已知的学过的英语吗？有就完全没必要再翻译成中文“才能懂”了，直接记住这些已知的学过的英语就是了。这才是学英语需要下功夫的地方，不是煞费苦心记住它的中文。

2.So,if we have a difficult task to complete,we can say We have a tough nut to crack.

For example.Getting an A in this class will be a tough nut to crack.

只记住中文“不算厉害”，记住它的英语才是“有效”。

2.So,if we get a baker's dozen(of something),we get thirteen (of it).

For example.Will you give baker's dozen? You mean Will you give thirteen?
