![]() ![]() Why do I Like Teaching English? ![]() By teaching English, I can communicate with youngsters, who make the classroom full of vitality and naivety. They are medicine for the wounds of life. They are the best cosmetics for the soul. They are the antidotes to the poisons of the adult world. These are what I need badly, so I like teaching English. By teaching English, I can witness the growth of lives. Max van Manen, a noted educator, once said that education is a learning of infatuation with the growth of others. It’s a chance hard to be achieved to witness so closely an immature life grows to be a mature one. And more interestingly, you may play a role in it. These give me a sense of achievement, so I like teaching English. By teaching English, I can find a different world. English, as a foreign language, opens a door to a completely different world and you exist in it in a way. This, quite wonderfully, provides a way to be and presents an image of life different from the old one. You become a bridge between two languages and cultures and bring more students to the new world, which helps them find themselves in the light of new language and culture. These help me build a sense of existence, so l like teaching English. By teaching English, I can find a lifestyle. Reading English as preparation for teaching and teaching English as a lifestyle has become an absolutely necessary part of my life. I teach, therefore, I am. Teaching English is a way to be and a way to manifest my existence. And teaching English is a 100% different experience than teaching any other subject. These make me different, so I like teaching English. By teaching English, I can learn more about myself. Know thyself, the inscription on the door of Temple of Delphi and the admonition of Socrates lingers on my mind over and again. Teaching English throws new light on the admoniton and helps me reflect what my life is aimed at and what the meaning is of my life. Teaching English forces me to think about myself and the worth of it. The English language helps me know more about my ignorance and pride because I can read works of English for wisdom and thoughts which are useful and helpful in “knowing thyself”. By teaching English, I can converse with the great minds of the English world, which washes away gradually my ridiculous conceit and arrogance. The more I converse with them, the further I realise my ignorance and I am motivated to read more, and the conceit and arrogance in me are washed away. As Laozts says: Learning consists in adding to one’s stock day by day; The practice of Tao consists in subtracting day by day. ![]() 注:看到朋友写了一篇文章《你喜欢教英语吗》,这算是一个我的回应。 |
