[语法] moral 和 morale 这么像！含义有何区别？

首先来讲讲 moral，它可当形容词和名词用。

用作形容词时，moral 意为“道德 (上) 的；讲道德的，品性端正的；道义上的，精神上的”，如：

1.I refused the request on moral grounds.

基于道德上的考量，我拒绝了这项请求。

2.It’s not my moral obligation to tell you what I want to do.

我没有道义上的责任要告诉你我想做什么。

3.Mary’s a very moral woman.

玛丽是个品行极为端正的女性 / 玛丽是个很讲究道德的女性)

4.They will give us moral support.

他们会给我们精神支持。

Moral 用作名词时意为“道德教训；寓意”，是个可数名词，如：

1.What is the moral of this story?

这个故事的寓意是什么？

2.The moral of the story is that honesty is always the best policy.

这个故事的寓意是：诚实方为上策。

此外，用作名词时，moral 还意为“道德；品行；道德规范”，但通常以复数型态 morals 出现，如：

1.Some people have no business morals.

有些人毫无商业道德。

2.He has no morals at all.

他毫无道德可言。

Morale（/məˈrɑːl/ ）仅当名词用，是个不可数名词，意为“士气；斗志”，如：

1.The government is struggling to boost public servants’ morale.

政府正极力提振公务员的士气。

2.Because a lot of people have lost their jobs recently, morale is fairly low.

由于近来许多人遭到裁员，现在士气很低落。
