Have you watched any movies or TV series about emergency room? Well, I know one American movie named “Emergency Room” was on show in 1983, and there was an American TV series named “Emergency Room” as well which was super popular at that time.

你有没有看过任何关于急诊室的影片或者电视剧呢？好吧，我知道有一部美国电影名字就叫“急诊室”是在1983年上映的。还有一部是美国的电视剧也叫“急诊室”，这部剧当时超火。

After watching these movies and TV series, have you ever thought of being a doctor or a nurse? Well, I would say they are not easy jobs but they are awesome jobs, because doctors and nurses can save lots of people's lives.

看了这些电影和电视剧后，你是否想过要成为医生或者护士。好吧，我要说这些工作不简单但它们可是非常棒的工作，因为医生们和护士们可以拯救很多人的生命。

Today we are going to listen to a dialogue in an emergency room. Oh, my gosh, there is a patient who is going to die. What can the doctors and nurses do? Let's see what will happen then.

今天我们将要听一段在急诊室里的对话。哦，我的天啊，有一个病人要死了。医生们护士们能做些什么呢？让我们看看会发生些什么吧。

A: Help! Are you a doctor? My poor little Frankie has just stopped breathing! Oh my gosh, help me! I tried to perform CPR, but I just … I don't know if I could get any air into his lungs! Oh, Frankie!

A: NOOOOOO! Frankie! Doctor! Do something!

B: Someone get her out of here! Get me the defibrillator. Okay, clear! Again! Clear! Come on! Dammit! I'm not letting you go! Clear! I've got a pulse!

C: Okay, what's happening?

B: The patient is in acute respiratory failure, I think we're going to have to intubate!

C: Alright! Tubes in! Bag him! Someone give him 10 cc shot of adrenaline! Let's go, people move, move!

A: Doctor, oh, thank god! How is he?

Welcome back. Oh, hope our cute patient, a little hamster, will be out of the woods finally. Did you know who Frankie was at the beginning of this dialogue? Haha, I bet you don't know about it at all.

The consequence is truly out of my expectation. Okay, now let's learn some important tips of pronunciations first. 

这结局真的是太出乎我的意料了。好了，现在让我们先学习一些重要的发音技巧。

1. 省略 [h] 的连读

在连音规则中，以“h”开头的单词 [h] 音近乎省略。因为 [h] 发音很特殊，只是出气没有摩擦，所以拼读时好像被省略了。

例如：

（1）Does~(h) e know? 他知道吗？

（2）What~(h)appened？发生什么了？

文章中：

（1）Ellen, get~(h)im hooked up to a monitor! 给他接上心电监护仪，Ellen!

（2）How is~(h)e？他怎么样了？

2. 元音+元音的连读

一句话中相邻的两个单词，前一个单词以元音结尾，后一个单词以元音开始，则在两个元音之间加上一个轻微的 [j] 或 [w] 的音，拼读成“元音+ [j] 或 [w] +元音”。

这里我们着重讲以[u:]或 [əʊ] 结尾的元音+[w]+元音。

例如：

do it→do [w] it

Don't do~it again. 不要再做了。

go up→go [w] up

Let's go~upstairs and have dinner. 我们上楼去吃晚餐吧。

It means a severe condition in which the respiratory system is unable to provide an adequate supply of oxygen or to remove carbon dioxide efficiently.

例句：

In the end, he died of acute respiratory failure in the arms of his brother.

4. intubate [ˈɪntjuˌbeɪt] v. 插管

It means the insertion of a cannula or tube into a hollow body organ.

它是指将套管或管子插入中空的身体器官。

The trachea in some patients is difficult or impossible to intubate under any circumstances.

有的病人的气管在任何情况下都是很难、或根本不可能插管的。

5. stabilize [ˈsteɪbəlaɪz] v. 使稳定

It means to become or to make something become firm, steady and unlikely to change; to make something stable.

它是指使某物变得稳固、稳定且不可能改变；使某物稳定。

例句：

The patient's condition stabilized.

患者的病情稳定下来了。

1. bag somebody 给氧

It means attach an ambu bag to an intubation tube and squeeze the bag to put oxygen into the lungs.

它指的是将人工气囊（或者人工呼吸机）和插管相连，并且挤压氧气袋使得里面的氧气进入肺中。

注意：

这里的 ambu bag 指的是人工气囊/人工呼吸机，给予病人正压通气给氧，用于抢救患者。

例句：

Look, you bag him, I'll do the CPR.

2. hook up 连接到（因特网）;上（网）;连接，接通（计算机或其他电子仪器）

When someone hooks up a computer or other electronic machine, they connect it to other similar machines or to a central power supply.

当有人将电脑或其他电子机器连接起来时，他们会将其连接到其他类似的机器或中央电源。

例句：

I'm bringing some cables in case we want to hook up our devices to the TV.

It means out of danger period or out of difficulty.
