Hello English learners! Welcome back to our channel. Im Lily.

大家早上好,欢迎回到我们的频道,我是Lily

And today we're gonna take you to the airport.

今天我们要带你去机场。

That's right. We're gonna look at some great stuff that can help you the next time you are at the airport at the check-in counter.

我们将会看到一些下次能帮助你在机场办理登机手续的表达。

So lets listen to the dialogue and then well come back later.

让我们来听一下对话,稍后回来。

「对话文本」

A: Next please! Hello sir, may I see your passport please?
下一个!你好,先生,麻烦出示您的护照?

BYes, here you go.
好的,给你。

A: Will you be checking any bags today?
你今天要托运行李吗?

BYes, Id like to check three pieces.
是的,我想托运三件。

A: Im sorry, sir. Airline policy only allows two pieces of checked luggage, at twenty kilograms each, plus one piece of carry-on luggage. I will have to charge you extra for the additional suitcase.
对不起,先生。航空公司的政策只允许托运两件行李,每件20公斤,外加一件随身行李。我得另外向您收取超额手提箱费用。

BWhat? Why! I am taking an intercontinental flight! Im flying sixteen thousand kms! How am I supposed to take only 2 twenty-kilo bags? Thats absurd!
什么?为什么?我要乘洲际航班!我要飞一万六千公里!我怎么可能只拿两个二十公斤的行李袋?太荒谬了!

A: I am sorry, sir, theres nothing I can do. You cannot board the flight with that large bag either. Carry-on bags must fit in the over-head compartment or under your seat. That bag is clearly too big.
对不起,先生,我无能为力。你也不能带着那个大包登机。随身携带的行李必须放在头顶上方的隔间或您的座位下方。那个包显然太大了。

BNow I see. You charge next to nothing for an international ticket, but when it comes to charging for any other small thing, you charge an arm and a leg! So tell me, miss, how much will I have to pay for all of this.
现在我明白了。一张国际机票你几乎不收任何费用,但当涉及到其他任何小东西的收费时,你却要收一大笔钱!告诉我,小姐,我要付多少钱。

A: Lets see... six hundred and twenty-five US dollars.
让我看看......六百二十五美元。

BThats more than my round-trip ticket!
这比我的往返票还贵!

「重要发音技巧」

All right. Now lets look at some pronunciation tips.

接下来我们来看看对话中的发音要点。

1. Next please! Hello sir, may I see your passport please?

略读:

两个爆破音一前一后的相邻出现,那么前面的爆破音只做好发音的姿势,不要发出音来。

略读分析:

  • 在这句话中,“next please和“passport please”之间都是/t//p/两个爆破音相邻,/t/只做好发音姿势,不要发出音来,我们可以读为 /neks(t)/ + /pliːz/ /ˈpæspɔːr(t)/ + /pliːz/。

2. You cannot board the flight with that large bag either.

略读分析:

  • cannot board也是两个爆破音相邻出现的情况,/t/只做好发音姿势,不要发出音来,读作/ˈkænɑː(t)/ + /bɔːrd/

  • board the是一个爆破音/d/后面紧跟了一个摩擦音/ð/,前面这个爆破音只发出轻微的爆破声,读作/bɔːrd/ + /ðə/

「核心单词掌握」

Alright, now we’ll talk about some really useful words.
现在我们来看一些很有用的词汇。

1. check bags 托运行李
So the woman asked, “Will you be checking any bags today?”
这位女士问,你今天有行李要托运吗?

Alright, check bags. It means to give your bags to the airline to register them.
check bags的意思就是把你的行李交给航空公司去登记。

It reminds me of checking into a hotel. Right. When you go to a hotel, you register at the hotel. You check in. In this case, you just check your luggage.
这让我想起了check into a hotel,去酒店登记后入住。在这种情况下,你需要登记好行李。

2. carry-on luggage 随身行李
So he wanted to check three pieces of luggage, and he also had carry-on luggage.
他需要托运三件行李,还有随身行李。

So carry-on luggage. You carry it on yourself. You carry it on to the plane.
carry-on luggage就是你自己带着的行李,要带上飞机的行李。

衍生:
a carry-on bag 随身携带的包
a carry-on suitcase 随身携带的行李箱

3. intercontinental flight 洲际航班
Now, he was traveling on an intercontinental flight.
现在,他正在乘坐的航班是intercontinental flight(洲际航班

Okay, so maybe he's traveling maybe from Asia to North America.
他有可能乘坐的是从亚洲飞向北美州的航班。

4. board a plane 登机
He's trying to board this intercontinental flight.
他想登上这次洲际航班。

All right, so basically board means to get on.
“board”的意思是get on,登上。

衍生:
board the ship 登船
board the train 登上火车

5. overhead compartment 头顶的行李架
So you have an overhead compartment, the place where you put your bags.
飞机上会有一个overhead compartment,就是头顶上方放包的地方。

文章中:
Carry-on bags must fit in the overhead compartment or under your seat.
随身携带的行李必须放在头顶上方的隔间或您的座位下方。

「实用口语表达」

Alright, it's time for us to take a look at some great phrases.

现在我们一起来看一些很棒的表达。

1. How am I supposed to…? 我怎么能够/我如何做到?

So this guy was pretty angry about this airline policy, and he said, “How am I supposed to take only 2 twenty-kilo bags?

这个人对航空公司的政策很生气,他说,我怎么可能只拿两个二十公斤的行李?

How am I supposed to…” OK, so before we get into explaining this, let’s listen to a couple of examples.
在解释“How am I supposed to…”之前,我们先听几个例子。

  • How am I supposed to fit the dog in the car? There are ten people in there already.
    怎么能把狗放进车里?里面已经有十个人了。
  • How is she supposed to get to work if her car is in the shop?

    如果她的车在商店里,她该怎么去上班呢?

  • How are we supposed to know the answer to that? It's impossible.

    我们怎么知道答案呢?这是不可能的。

So How am I supposed to” means “How do you expect me to do this?” or “ How is it possible for me to do this?”

How am I supposed to…”表达的意思就是“你怎么能期待我这么做呢”或者“我怎么可能做到呢?

It's a phrase you could use when you're frustrated, right?

这是一个当你感到沮丧的时候可能会用这个表达。

2. There is nothing I can do.  我无能为力。

So basically, the woman can't help the man, even though he's insisting and he's pushing that he wants another solution. So finally she says, “I’m sorry, there's nothing I can do. ”

对话中这位女士帮不了这位男士,即使他坚持想要另一个解决方案。最后女士说“There’s nothing I can do.” 对不起,我无能为力。

例句:

It is a rule and there is nothing I can do.

这是规定,我无能为力。

3.  next to nothing 非常少

The guy said “You charge next to nothing for an international ticket.”

男士说,“一张国际机票你几乎不收任何费用。”

So “next to nothing” means “very little”。

next to nothing的意思就是“非常少”。

Why don't we listen to some examples of what “next to nothing” means?

我们来听几个例子,看看next to nothing表达的意思。

  • Let’s go to Thailand. Tickets cost next to nothing right now.

    我们去泰国吧。现在的机票几乎不花什么钱。

  • John knew next to nothing about computer.

    约翰对电脑几乎一无所知。

  • They are eating next to nothing.

    他们几乎什么东西都没吃。

4. an arm and a leg 收费极其昂贵

And now for our last phrase today, it's the complete opposite of “charge next to nothing”.

现在我们今天的最后一个短语,它和“charge next to nothing”的意思完全相反。

An arm and a leg. So this means it's really expensive. It's like giving your arm and your leg.

An arm and a leg意思是“非常昂贵”。这就像献出你的胳膊和腿。

文章中:

When it comes to charging for any other small thing, you charge an arm and a leg!

现当涉及到其他任何小东西的收费时,你却要收一大笔钱!
