So the woman asked, “Will you be checking any bags today?”

Alright, check bags. It means to give your bags to the airline to register them.

check bags的意思就是把你的行李交给航空公司去登记。

It reminds me of checking into a hotel. Right. When you go to a hotel, you register at the hotel. You check in. In this case, you just check your luggage.

2. carry-on luggage 随身行李

So he wanted to check three pieces of luggage, and he also had carry-on luggage.

So carry-on luggage. You carry it on yourself. You carry it on to the plane.

Alright, it's time for us to take a look at some great phrases.

So this guy was pretty angry about this airline policy, and he said, “How am I supposed to take only 2 twenty-kilo bags?”

“How am I supposed to…” OK, so before we get into explaining this, let’s listen to a couple of examples.

How am I supposed to fit the dog in the car? There are ten people in there already.

How is she supposed to get to work if her car is in the shop?

So “How am I supposed to…” means “How do you expect me to do this?” or “ How is it possible for me to do this?”

It's a phrase you could use when you're frustrated, right?

2. There is nothing I can do. 我无能为力。

So basically, the woman can't help the man, even though he's insisting and he's pushing that he wants another solution. So finally she says, “I’m sorry, there's nothing I can do. ”

So “next to nothing” means “very little”。
