Since 讲解：这是考研完形填空题，这里as引导的从句表示时间。从句的谓语struggle与主句的谓语 is booming 都是延续动词。 译文：正当一些工业巨头，像通用汽车公司和IBM公司，都在试图通过裁员来谋求生存之时，总部设在威斯康星州密尔沃基市的劳务公司Manpower却日渐兴旺发展起来。 裁员：reduce the number of employees 答案：C 歧视 01 discriminate Cathay Pacific Airways has fired three flight attendants after a complaint that they had discriminated against non-English speaking passengers. 三名空乘人员因被投诉歧视非英语乘客，国泰航空将其解雇 注意 crimin，这其实是 crime，dis=away，该词的字面意思为“把犯罪的和不犯罪的分开”，后来词义产生贬义化，引申意思为“歧视”。 indiscriminate：in（not）-dis（not）-criminate（crime 罪行）：discriminate=把有罪的鉴别出来=歧视，indiscriminate：不加区分的 💡 indiscriminate：adj. 随意的；恣意的；不加分析的；不加判断的 Doctors have been criticized for their indiscriminate use of antibiotics. 医生被指责滥用抗生素。 She’s always been indiscriminate in her choice of friends. 她一向择友不慎。 02 disparage Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. fired three flight attendants after a swift probe of recorded comments that went viral in China, showing crew members disparaging passengers who didn’t speak English. 💡 disparage/dɪˈspærɪdʒ/： dis=away，parage=rank（等级），字面意思“下一个等级的”，引申为“贬低”。 【可爱记忆】dis不是，parage＝passenger过路客：对于商家来说，对老主顾都特别的殷勤，而对过路客就不愿意提供良好的服务，采取一种藐视的态度。 最讨厌的同事行为之一：  She often aggrandises herself and disparages her colleagues. 她经常吹嘘自己而贬低同事。 不会说毯子又怎么样？ 之前油管笔记特意写到过：  In the audio clip, a flight attendant can be heard laughing as she tells her colleagues: 'If you cannot say blanket in English, you cannot have it. Carpet is on the floor.” 香港国泰航空空服人员被指歧视不会说英语的乘客，嘲笑乘客把毛毯（blanket）讲成地毯（carpet）。 blanket指的是毛毯，考你，用毯子把自己裹起来，用哪个动词？ envelope！！ He enveloped himself in blankets. 他用毛毯把自己裹起来。  特意把李狗嗨里的雅人叔截图，是不是超级可爱！！ brass 黄铜到高层 He called on Cathay’s brass to improve the company’s services immediately. 他呼吁国泰航空的高层立即改善公司的服务。 brass/brɑːs/这里是（公司、机构等的）最高负责人，要员，头目 这个词可以和 bronze 组合记忆，不过这个词是“青铜”，而不是黄铜，brass 的词源不明确，不过这个词汇经常和一些其他词汇组合记忆，如锡(tin) ，锌(zinc)，铁(iron)，铜(copper)，属于矿物质词汇。 搭配使用：这个词有使用限定，如铜管乐器，就只能用 the brass。  Consequently even this vast chorus was occasionally overwhelmed by the brass.结果连这个大合唱偶尔也被铜管乐所压倒。 形容词brazen：这个词是从 brass（黄铜）来的，寓意为：黄铜颜色的脸，让人看不到羞耻感，故为“厚颜无耻”。还可以做动词哦，看brazen it out（厚着脸皮）：
