The World Health Organization's cancer research agency says mobile phones are 'possibly carcinogenic', BBC reported. A review of evidence suggests an increased risk of a malignant type of brain cancer cannot be ruled out. A cancer charity said the evidence was too weak to draw strong conclusions. A group of 31 experts met at the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to review human evidence coming from epidemiological studies. The panel concluded that mobiles should be rated as 'possibly carcinogenic' because of their potential link with glioma, a type of brain cancer.

孤儿救助需要体系保证 A new report lists juvenile diseases, disabilities and pre-school education should be as top priorities for improving child welfare in China. According to 'Child Welfare in China - Stocktaking Report 2011' released yesterday, 60 billion yuan is needed to launch new initiatives in these core areas, China.org.cn reported. The report highlights that the number of orphans in China rose to 712,000 in 2010 from 574,000 just five years ago. As of the end of last year, a total of 5.04 million children suffer from disabilities and 58 million children are left unattended in the village with their parents working in the cities. In addition, around 496-894, 000 children are afflicted with HIV/AIDS due to various factors.
据中国网报道，一项新的报告指出，政府需要在青少年疾病、残疾及学前教育三个方面优先提高儿童福利。昨日发布的《中国儿童福利政策报告2011》测算启动上述三项制度需要600亿元。《报告》显示我国的孤儿人数已从2005年的57.4万上升至2010年的71.2万，截至去年年底，我国残疾儿童共504万人，全国农村留守儿童约 5800万人，另外，约有49.6万-89.4万儿童由于各种原因感染了艾滋病病毒。

The government is tightening its control over intangible cultural heritage (ICH) classifications and considering setting up a declassification mechanism, a cultural official told Xinhua Tuesday. China received nearly 3,000 applications for its third list of state-level ICH, said Ma Desheng, deputy director of the ICH department at the Ministry of Culture. 'Only 190 applications will be approved, as we will strictly grant ICH to items that are truly representative of great cultural value,' Ma said. Chinese National Academy of Arts researcher Tian Qing proposed that a withdrawal mechanism for the ICH list should be put in place to discourage negligent preservation and protection of the heritage. Ma confirmed that the government is mulling the proposal over. China's first law governing the protection of ICH went into effect today. >Nursing home abuses occupant
敬老院老人被逼喝尿
A male nurse working at a senior center in Zhengzhou has been taken into police custody after allegedly abusing residents, Yangtze Evening News reported. Candid video footage shows Zheng Huanming, the nurse, tying some occupants to their beds, waking them up at midnight, cursing at them and even making them drink urine, the paper reported. Police are still collecting evidence. No charges have yet been filed.

Spain has expressed anger at links being made between the country's cucumbers and a deadly E. coli outbreak, BBC reported. Spanish agriculture minister Rosa Aguilar said Germany blamed Spain's cucumbers 'without having reliable data' to back up its claims. Speaking at an EU meeting in Hungary, she also said the issue should be treated as a 'common problem,' and that there should be compensation for Spanish and other European producers affected. Meanwhile, authorities in Hamburg said four suspect cucumbers found there last week - including three imported from Spain - were carrying the virus, but not the same kind found in patients. 'As before the source remains unidentified,' Hamburg state health minister Cornelia Pruefer-Storcks said. >Australia suspends live cattle trade to Indonesia

The Australian government has suspended the live export of cattle to 11 slaughterhouses in Indonesia, after a TV documentary showed brutal treatment of animals at the facilities, BBC reported. The footage, broadcast on ABC, showed cattle being flogged and taking minutes to die after their necks were slashed. But Indonesian officials have asked Australia not to rush into a decision. Sri Mukartini, the head of animal welfare at Indonesia's agriculture ministry, said: 'Animal welfare is a relatively new issue in Indonesia. We're still developing regulations.'

Jobs, along with a team of executives, will deliver the keynote speech at a June 6 conference. He plans to unveil a new cloud-based service called iCloud, offering computing and data over the Internet, Apple said in a statement. The CEO will also unveil a slew of software upgrades, including Lion, its latest Mac OS X computer operating system, and iOS 5, the next version of its mobile operating system. Seventy-five additional bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of an Air France plane that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on June 1, 2009, killing all 228 people aboard, CNN reported. With the latest recovery, the number of bodies found since the accident now totals 127. Many bodies still remain buried in the fuselage, investigators said.

Billboard estimated that Amazon accounted for 440,000 downloads of 'Born This Way.' Scientists have discovered that female butterflies have a tell-tale sign to show they are not interested when being chased by a male, the Daily Mail reported. A team in Japan has found that females close their wings when they want to avoid unwanted male attention. Researchers say that by folding away their wings, which often have striking patterns, the butterflies are less visible to their male counterparts.
