【原】英语写作 | 用来展开前述内容的transition words一共有几个可用？

要想英语作文流畅又有逻辑，用好transition words是其中一个关键。

上期小文，我们梳理如何使用transtion words，还给出了使用案例。（详见：英语写作 | 从中译英开始思考：如何让写出来的英文更有逻辑性）

今天我们来具体了解一下各类transition words到底是如何使用的。

第一类: additive transition words

我们可以把additive transition words理解为一类可用来补充、引入信息的过渡词。这类词可用来扩展、比较或澄清前文内容。例如，写作中需要向读者逐步展开一个思想或者介绍一个过程时，可以用顺承过渡词来连接句子，使文章更加连贯。当需要进行对比时，也可以使用这类过渡词，帮助读者更好地理解文本中的比较关系。此外还有一些过渡词可用于澄清前文中的观点或提供更多的信息。

具体而言，Additive transition words具有五种功能：addition，introduction, reference, similrity, clarification。

Addition(补充同类或递进信息） 

当我们想要展开讨论某个思想、引入补充信息时，我们可以使用如下几个词：

Indeed: 表示递进语气，引入解释前述内容的进一步评价或陈述

例：

We have nothing against diversity; indeed, we want more of it.

我们并不反对多样化；其实，我们希望有更多的多样化。

Furthermore: 引入支持前述言论的信息

例：

He said he had not discussed the matter with her. Furthermore, he had not even contacted her. 

他说他没有和她讨论过这个问题。而且，他甚至没有和她联系过。

Moreover: 引入支持前述言论的信息 (同furthermore)

例：

She saw that there was indeed a man immediately behind her. Moreover, he was observing her strangely.

她看到的确有个男人紧跟在她身后。而且，他还在怪异地观察着她。

Additionally：引入额外的事实或原因等信息。

例：

All teachers are qualified to teach their native language. Additionally, we select our teachers for their engaging personalities.

所有教师都具备教授其母语的资格。另外，我们还根据富有魅力的个性来选择我们的教师。

And：顺承（连接同属一类的内容），连接两个内容相似，从而呈现事物或问题的相关性

例：

I love reading books and I also love watching movies.

我喜欢读书，也爱看电影。

And：递进，用来延续上个陈述的意思

例：

You could only really tell the effects of the disease in the long term, and five years wasn't long enough.

 这种疾病的影响只有在长期内才能真正看清楚，而5年是不够长的。

Also: 引入补充信息

例：

I didn't like it that much. Also, it was much too expensive. 

我并不怎么喜欢它。再说它太贵了。

Both x and y：用来强调两个事物之间的关系，二者在某种程度平等又必要

例：

For this job you will need a good knowledge of both Italian and Spanish. 

担任这项工作需要精通意大利语和西班牙语。

Not only x but also y：用来强调两个事物的相关性和重要性。

例：

Not only are mothers not paid but also most of their boring or difficult work is unnoticed. 

母亲们不仅得不到报酬，而且所干的乏味艰辛的活儿也很少被留意。

Besides: 引入你想表达的另一个观点，尤其是你认为重要的观点。

例：

The house was out of our price range and too big anyway. Besides, I'd grown fond of our little rented house.

反正这个房子超出了我们的预算范围，而且也太大了。再说，我已经渐渐喜欢上我们租的小房子了。

In fact: 引入更详细信息来说明前述内容（补充细节）。

例：

Pearl didn't mind his reticence; in fact she liked it. 

珀尔不介意他的沉默，事实上她喜欢这一点。

用来补充同类或递进信息的transition words一共介绍了10个。
