Reading（同上次 II 的 Reading）

Jane, a friend of me came from England to Dalian. I Showed her around the city. On the way Jane said again and again “Beautiful! So beautiful, Just as I expected. Oh, more beautiful than I expected! I feel as if I were walking in the streets of some European countries. But Dalian looks new and tidy.” We came to Zhongshang Square. It was evening. There were many people there dancing, playing, doing some kind of exercises, playing Taiji, etc. I found she was interested in Taiji, and said to her,  “Come on, do as I do, and do as I say. Let’s do it together.” “Thank you very much. You act as if you’re my elder sister. Well, the Chinese people are making great progress, like my teacher Sue said.”

1  As if 和as though的意思是一样的。都接主语+动词，表示两件事情相似。动词过去式were (was)表示不真实的想法， (Jane说话时不是在欧洲国家)。

I feel as if (as though) I were walking in the streets of some European country.

但是如果说话人认为情况真实，则用一般现在时。

You act as if you’re my elder sister.

(Jane真的认为我象她的姐姐.)

2 在非正式英语中like可以代替 as, as if/as though，常用于美国英语。

Like my teacher Sue said (= As my teacher Sue said)

     You act like you’re my elder sister. (as if you’re my elder sister)

3. as if/as though常与感观动词连用(look, feel, seem, 等) 。

小练习I. 用as if/ as though +主语 + was/were 完成下列句子

例： He behaved as though he was/were the owner of the company.

或  He behaves as if he was/were the owner of the company.

II.Like 还是 as?

Reading:

“Really, the Chinese people are making great progress. We try every effort to study hard. You know I’m a teacher. During the day I work as a teacher. In the evening and at weekends I study as a student.. I don’t work like a slave, but as the master. I study hard in my spare time as a way to amplify myself.”

1 As可以用作介词，接名词。但是它与 like +名词的意思不同。  As表示某人或某事是真实的（作为）， like 表示人或事之间的比较（象）。

During the day I work as a teacher.

I don’t work like a slave.

2 As 还表示某事的角色和作用。

I study hard in my spare time as a way to amplify myself.
