这是If条件句的虚拟语句，并且是对现在的虚拟。状语从句If I were...，主句为I would/wouldn’t do...

我做的。相信我。

make表示“制造；做”，make a cake做蛋糕；make bread做面包；make coffee冲了咖啡；make a banana milk shake做香蕉奶昔。

Hey, hey, do you have a death wish?

等等，你有什么意愿吗？

No, I just refused to believe that anybody canscrew up macaroni and cheese.

没有，我不相信有人连乳酪通心粉都不会做。

death wish表示“死亡愿望”。是一种强烈的，潜在的自杀倾向，表现为对死亡的渴望或冲动。

refuse表示“拒绝；回绝”。指由于不情愿或不愿意而对某事给予否定的回答或不接受不肯做某事。既可以用作及物动词，也可以用作不及物动词。refuse常用短语为：refuse sth/to do sth拒绝某事或拒绝做某事。美剧当中refuse to believe意思是“拒绝相信；不愿意相信”。

screw up表示“搞砸；弄糟”。或者screw sth up.

macaroni是“空心面”。一般和cheese（奶酪）一起做更美味。

It tastes like...表示“这尝起来就像...”。后面可以接名词或者句子。

rent，做动词可以表示“租用”，“出租”。做名词表示“租金”。’for rent’表示“待租售”。

across the street表示“在街对面”。across表示“从一边到另一边”。可以和动词连用。比如：fly across the sky掠过天空。walk across the field穿过田地。go across the bridge走过大桥。美剧当中live across the street就是“住在街对面”的意思。

Mrs. Huber told meabout you. Said you illustrate children’sbooks.

胡博太太跟我说过你，说你为儿童书画插画。

illustrate表示“给书加插画”。illustrate a book就是给书添加图片，图表这些。If you illustrate a book, you put pictures, photograghs or diagramsinto it.美剧当中illustrate children’s books就是给孩子的书插入图像，也就是“插画”。

big在这里表示“受欢迎的”，相当于popular.(popular with the public; successful).比如：Morandi color system is very big these years.近年来莫兰迪色系非常流行。

throw out表示“扔掉；丢弃”，相当于throw away.
