（一）基本用法

英语中的句子按照其组织结构分，主要包括：简单句、并列句和复合句。

英语中的简单句（Simple/Basic sentences）是指只包含一个分句的句子，或者更具体地说，是一个独立的分句，包含有一个主语和一个谓语。简单句最基本的结构是主谓句，即“主语+谓语”。在此基础上，简单句可以包含很多修饰语。如：

Jessie ate.

Jessie ate dinner.

The hungry Jessie ate a large dinner.

The hungry Jessie quickly ate a very large dinner.

The hungry Jessie quickly ate a very large dinner after a long day at work.

（三）并列主语

英语中的简单句可以包含两个或两个以上的主语。如：

Jessie and Jade ate dinner.

Jessie or Jade ate dinner.

Jessie, Jade, and Titus ate dinner.

Both Jessie and Jade ate dinner.

Neither Jessie nor Jade ate dinner.

（四）并列谓语

英语中的简单句可以包含两个或两个以上的谓语动词。如：

Jessie cooked and ate dinner.

Jessie rinsed and washed the dishes.

Jessie ate dinner and washed the dishes.

Jessie cooked dinner and rinsed the dishes.

（五）语序调整

英语中的简单句的句子成分一般遵循“主谓宾状”的基本语序，但有时也会根据需要来调整语序。如：

We completed our homework after school.

After school, we completed our homework.

I ran quickly to the store.

Quickly, I ran to the store.

Were you sick today?

You were sick today.

（六）写作运用

英语中的简单句在写作中可以用于提出观点，达到简单明了、开门见山的效果，但如果一段文字过多使用简单句，就会给人感觉不连贯，内容上显得支离破碎。试比较：

【修改前】He loves baseball. He first played little league baseball. He joined the baseball team in middle school.

【修改后】He loves baseball and played little league before joining the baseball team in middle school.
