在《英语（新目标）》七年级Unit3中，我们学到了other 这个单词。随后在初中三年期间我们又学到了这个家族的其他几个成员 the other, others, the others,another。不过，这几个堂兄弟经常让我们满头雾水，尤其是做单项选择时总是举棋不定。今天咱把这几个捣蛋鬼召集起来，认真核实各自的身份，以后再遇到他们不就泾渭分明了吗？下面从词性、指代范围和搭配三个角度展开，对这个知识点进行解析。
擒贼先擒王。大家看这几个词大多和other有关，那咱就先看other。
一 词性问题
other 做形容词时，意为 “别的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”，这时，可以修饰单数或复数名词。如：other people,other footballers
做代词时，意为“其他的人或物”,这时other就有复数形式了，即others。
二 指代范围问题
1 other泛指，可以修饰单数名词，也可以修饰复数名词。
2 the other强调的是两者中的另一个，因此，必须看是不是出现在两者这个范围之内。
The old man has two children,one is a teacher,the other is an actor.
the other除了指两个中的另一个外，还可以指两部分中的另一部分。
Jane is much taller than the other girls. 在这里，把女孩们分为两部分即Jane 和除她以外的其他女孩这两大部分。 表示两部分中一部分怎么样，另一部分怎样。
3 others 做代词，泛指“其余的人或物”相当于other+复数名词
Everyone should be ready to help others.
我们每一个人都应当乐于助人。
In the park, some boys are boating,others are swimming.
在公园里，一些男孩在划船，另外一些在游泳。（这句中others=other+boys）
others & other + 复数名词 都是泛指的。
4 the others特指一个整体中其他的人或物。是the other的复数形式。
Some students like playing basketball, the others like playing football.
the others=the other +复数名词, 两者都是特指。
