(18) I wish…; would that I were…; if only…都有「我真盼望…」的意思。
例如:
I wish I were a bird so that I could fly everywhere.
我真盼望我是隻鳥，我就能到處飛行。
I wish Mr. Wang would be more courteous toward his house maid.
我真盼望王先生對他的傭人客氣些。
He wisher he could speak English as fluently as native Americans.
他真盼望能說像當地老美一樣流利的英文。

(19) no more than; nothing but; only; merely都有「只不過是」、「僅僅是」的意思。
例如:
The snobbish man standing there is nothing but a dentist.
站在那邊傲慢的人，只不過是位牙醫。
The arrogant person in his car is no more than a lawyer.
在車子裡那位傲慢的人，僅僅是位律師而已。
The one sticking his nose up in the air is only (或merely) a physician.

A先生有高深學問，僅僅只是缺乏友愛。
(20) in order to; so as to; for the sake of; for the purpose of; with an aim of 都有「為了……」，「以便……」的意思。
例如：
We study English in order to learn about Western culture.
咱們學英語為了瞭解西洋文化。
Mr. J has published some books so as to help Chinese better understand Americans.
J先生出書是為了幫助華人更了解老美。
或：
For the sake of knowing Western culture, we study the English language.
或：
With an aim of promoting Sino-American relations, we need to learn more English.
The U.S. carried out naval maneuvers for the purpose of showing its super power in Asia.
美國海軍演習，為了顯示在亞洲的超強力量。
至於With a view to 的意思，也是「以……為目標」，「指望於」。
例如：
I have been writing articles for the newspaper with a view to bridging the gap between Chinese and Americans.
我在報上寫文章，指望彌補中美人民間的隔閡。
