像鬼那麼蒼白。通常指人生病或受到驚訝時，臉色十分蒼白。(very pale)
例如：
During his illness, Mr. B looked as pale as a ghost.
B先生患病時，看來臉色很蒼白。
At hearing of her husband's car accident, her face became as pale as a ghost.
她聽到老公發生車禍，臉色變得蒼白。
(34) as poor as a church-mouse:
像教堂的老鼠那麼貧窮。也就是十分貧苦。
例如：
Because of his business failure, Mr. B has been as poor as a church-mouse.
B先生由於經商失敗，十分貧窮。
With a sluggish economy, many people are as poor as a church-mouse.
許多人因經濟蕭條而非常拮据。
(用複數as poor as church-mice,也可勉強通過)
如果是非常富有，現在只說：as rich as a king, 或as rich as Rockefeller.
(洛克菲勒先生捐款建立芝加哥大學和許多慈善事業)
至於 as rich as Croesus 多半只用在古文學裡。
( Croesus 是一位富有的 King)
(35) as quick as lightning:
像閃電般的迅速。指動作快，或腦子靈活。
例如:
Being a good athlete, Mr. A can run as quick as lightning.
A先生是位好運動員，他跑步快如閃電。
In solving math problems, Bob is always as quick as lightning.
Bob解決數學問題，非常迅速。
(36) as quiet as a mouse:
靜如老鼠。也就是指人很安靜。
例如:
While studying, Mr. A is always as quiet as a mouse.
A先生讀書時，常常很安靜。
有時也可用複數:
In church, people are as quiet as mice.
在教堂，人們都很安靜。
但as silent as the grave是像墳墓般的靜默，一點不出噪聲。(係指外面沒有吵音)
例如:Most American small towns are as silent as the grave.
美國大部分的小城，是非常安靜。
(37) as regular as clockwork:
像鐘錶機器般的規律。就是指平時做事很有規律。
例如:
Mr. A writes his articles early every morning as regular as clockwork.
A先生很有規律地每天清早寫文章。
有時可把整個習語當形容詞:
Some people are bored with their as-regular-as-clockwork jobs.
有些人對按規律的工作感到厭倦。
(38) as sharp as a razor:
像剃刀那麼尖銳。指說話刻薄，讓人難過。(say something cruel or hurtful)
例如:
Mrs. Wang's heart is gentle, but her tongue seems as sharp as a razor.
王太太心地善良，不過說話很刻薄。
有時可用複數:
When two persons argue with each other, they are not supposed to be as sharp as razors.
當兩人吵架時，他們不該過份尖銳刻薄。
(39) as smooth as velvet:
像絲絨般的光滑。指摸上去很柔軟(soft to the touch)
例如:
The baby's skin is as smooth as velvet.
嬰孩的皮膚，摸上去很柔滑。
The cashmere sweater he bought was as smooth as velvet.
他買的開士米山羊絨毛衣，非常柔軟。
甚至可以說:
Her skin is(was) as smooth(或soft) as a baby's bottom.
她的皮膚像嬰兒的屁股般的滑柔。(bottom= rear-end)
(40) as wet as a drowned rat:
像溺水老鼠那麼濕透。指一個人衣服濕透了。
例如:
Walking in the rain for an hour, Mr. A was as wet as a drowned rat.
A先生在雨中走了一小時，全身濕透了。
Bob became as wet as a drowned rat, so he took a hot bath.
Bob衣服濕透了，所以洗個熱水澡。
