US newspapers reported that the popular US television series, “Desperate Housewives,” will end its run after the next season。

  Tell Me More

Run is a word that is used in so many different ways than just moving fast. When a TV show “ends its run,” it stops. When someone “runs on at the mouth,” that means he talks too much. If you get a “run” in your stocking, that means you have a long tear。

If your job “runs its course,” that means the job is over. If you find another job that is even better, “run for it,” which means hurry to get that job. If you don’t get that new job, you “made a run for it”, meaning you tried. If you “run up” a bill, that means you are ordering too much food or drink. When you “run the numbers,” you check the charges on that bill。

比如,电视节目可以end its run(停播);某人可能run on at the mouth(话太多);长袜可能get a run(抽丝了)。

如果你没有得到那份新工作,你可以说你已经made a run for it(努力过了)。
