Juicing 101
Posted by GillianB
A beginners guide to juicing!
- As you can see you can really mix any combination of fruits and vegetables. You want to put the emphasis on vegetables, especially dark leafy greens like kale, collard, mustard and dandelion greens to help alkalinize the body. You always just want to make sure that you balance out the bitterness of the greens with a citrus fruit like lemon, lime or orange.
- Be sure to use as much organic produce as you can, the pesticide residues found in conventional products isn’t something we want in our bodies!
- Drink your juice as soon as you can after making it. Juice is very sensitive to the air and is therefore quite perishable. The sooner you can drink it, the more nutrients and living enzymes your body will be able to absorb.
- Just because your juicing doesn’t mean you don’t need to eat vegetables. The juicing process separates the fibre from the juice in the form of pulp, we need an adequate amount of fibre in our diets to maintain healthy digestion and elimination. The practice of juicing simply encourages you to go above and beyond our normal consumption of vegetables.
- I use the OMEGA 8006-a very reputable and affordable brand and I highly recommend them, especially those with a single gear auger.
You will never get bored of juicing because the possibilities are endless! Here are a few of my favourite combinations, give them a try!
- 2 carrots, 1 beet and a small apple.
- 3 kale leaves, 1 handful of baby spinach, half of a cucumber, half of a lemon (always peel citrus fruits), 1 green apple
- 3 carrots, 1 apple, 1 thumb size piece of ginger
Happy Juicing!
