这里是笔者平时翻查词典所遇到的用法的集合，希望对于同道有益。 suggest (that) + 主语 + should do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + does sth suggest (that) + 主语 + can do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + could do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + will do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + must do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + shall do sth suggest (that) + 主语 + might do sth suggested (that) + 主语 + did sth 第1种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + should do sth 《朗文当代高级英语辞典》第五版第2546页suggest词条1 suggest：提议，建议： Her mother suggested that she should go and see the doctor. 她妈妈建议她去看医生。 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》（第四版增补本）第1529页 suggest词条1（a）: suggest sb (for sth); suggest sb/sth (as sth):提出某事物[某人]供考虑；提议；建议： I wrote suggesting that he should come for the weekend. 我写信请他来度周末。 第2种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + do sth 可视为省略了should后的用法。 《朗文当代高级英语辞典》第五版第2546页suggest词条1 suggest：提议，建议： I suggest you call him first. 我建议你先给他打电话。 《柯林斯高阶英汉双解学习词典》第2653页suggest词条1 I suggested to Mike that we go out for a meal with his colleagues. 我向迈克提议，我们和他的同事们一起出去吃饭。 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第6版第1767页 suggest词条1：建议；提议 I suggest (that) we go out to eat. 我提议我们出去吃饭。 It has been suggested that bright children (should美语省略，英式英语不省略should) take their exams early. 有人提议天资好的孩子提前考试。 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第七版suggest词条1例句： suggest vt. 建议，提议： I suggest you phone before you go round there. 我建议你去那儿之前先打个电话。 外研社《柯林斯高级英语用法词典》第885页 suggest词条表示“建议；提议”。 可在suggest后使用that从句。 I suggest that we let them do this. 我建议让他们来做这件事。 外研社《柯林斯高级英语用法词典》第885页 suggest词条表示“建议；提议”。 可在suggest后使用that从句。 然而，也可以使用不带to的不定式。这是一个正式的用法。 The committee suggest that even greater emphasis be placed upon this effort. 委员会建议应该更多地强调这种努力。 第3种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + does sth 《朗文英语语法》第430页11.75.2 suggest等动词后接that…should——指将来：(that)后面用肯定句或否定句 在ask, propose, recommend, suggest等动词后面可用(that)…should；在英国英语中还可用现在时或虚拟语气，而在美国英语中也可用虚拟语气。在口语中一般皆省略that： I suggest (that) he should/ shouldn’t apply for the job. （用should） 我建议他申请/不申请这项工作。 I suggest (that) he applies/ doesn’t apply for the job. （用现在时） （译文同上） I suggest (that) he apply/not apply for the job. （用虚拟语气） （译文同上） suggest等动词后接that…should——指过去：(that)后面用肯定句或否定句 引述动词如表示提出建议，其后的间接引语可用过去时代替(that)…should结构和虚拟语气： I suggested (that) they should/shouldn’t drive along the coast. 我建议他们沿着/不要沿着海岸开车。 I suggested (that) they drive/not drive along the coast. （译文同上） I suggested (that) they drove/didn’t drive along the coast. （译文同上） 外研社《柯林斯高级英语用法词典》第885页 suggest词条表示“建议；提议”。 可在suggest后使用that从句。 Perhaps you could suggest that he talks the matter over with his solicitor. 或许你可以建议他与他的律师来讨论这件事情。 在上面的例句中，that-从句中使用一般现在时。 有时也用might和should这样的情态动词。这也是正式用法。 《英语常用词疑难用法手册》陈用仪编著第698页suggest词条（6） 中文很普遍的“兼语式”（“建议”某人去做某事）不能套在suggest上，也就是说，不能suggest somebody to do something，要改为suggest that (that可省略)，从句的谓语动词用虚拟语气(should + inf. 或inf.)或直陈语气都可以。【例如】 What do you suggest we do about it? (John Darnton, The Darwin Conspiracy, p.170) 咱们对此该怎么办，你有什么建议吗？ Her uncle suggested that she (should) get (gets) a job in a bank. （不用Her uncle suggested her to get…） 她叔父建议她找一份银行的工作。 如果是当堂提建议，则不要用should。【例如】 I suggest that you get a job in a bank. 我建议你去找一份银行的工作。 张道真编著《英语语法大全》（下）英语句法第438页881： I (person) propose (or move, suggest, advise, ask, beg, request, require, desire, insist, demand, order) that something should be done. (虚拟语气should be可以用is, am, are, is to be, shall be, will be, must be 或may be等陈述语气代替。在这种形式中，should, must表示最强的愿望，may, will表示最弱的愿望。) 《英语动词用法》吴祖培著第90页 有些人对suggest的用法有一种绝对化倾向，认为作“暗示、想到、表明”解时不用虚拟句，而凡是作“建议、提议”解时只能用虚拟句。当然，作前一种解释时是对的。 但suggest即使是指“建议、提议”时，也会有不使用虚拟语气的时候。下面是文学作品和辞书中的一些用法实例： I suggest that this is done forthwith. (Snow) 我建议马上就把这事做好。 第4种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + can do sth 《文馨当代英汉词典》第1802页suggest词条1： 提议，提出，建议： Can you suggest how we can get [how to get] the information? 你说说看我们要如何才能得到那条信息。 《英语搭配大辞典》第1690页suggest词条： Can you suggest how we can solve this problem? 第5种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + could do sth 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第七版suggest词条1例句： suggest vt. 建议，提议： The therapist suggested how Tony could cope with his problems. 治疗师就托尼如何处理其问题提出了建议。 2014年高考英语，山东卷阅读理解B第一自然段倒数第二句话： It was one of those terribly hot days in Baltimore. Needless to say, it was too hot to do anything outside. But it was also scorching in our apartment. This was 1962, and I would not live in a place with an air conditioner for another ten years. So my brother and I decided to leave the apartment to find some place indoors. He suggested we could see a movie. It was a brilliant plan. 出现：He suggested we could see a movie. 第6种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + will do sth 《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第七版suggest词条1例句： It has been suggested that the manager will resign if any more players are sold. 有提议如果再有球员被卖掉，主教练就会辞职。 第7种形式：suggest (that) + 主语 + must do sth 张道真编著《英语语法大全》（下）第438页881： I (person) propose (or move, suggest, advise, ask, beg, request, require, desire, insist, demand, order) that something should be done.
