LONDON——A number of people have been killed in a huge fire which engulfed a 27-story block of flats in central London on Wednesday London Fire Brigade said.

Isn't there a sprinkler system in the building. Here in Japan buildings are required to have a sprinkler system above the 10th floor because water from firetruck hoses only reaches the 10th floor (there may be some really old buildings that don't have this I'm not sure).

I know the area very well and lived there in the 1970's. The tragic fire engulfed the entire building within 30 minutes or so. How can that happen? No sprinkle system. Recently upxed. If it collapses will cause further extensive damage because the area is very tight and there could also be materials like asbestos.

I can't imagine what sort of nightmare it would have been inside that building this is one of my all-time worst nightmares. Just hope that most residents were able to wake up in time to make it to safety but looking at that gigantic fire the people on the top floors may have had significant difficulties..

Very catastrophic! The disastrous fire this time really reminds me of the film 'The Towering Inferno.' For some reason I watched the movie a couple of times first one many years ago and second one only fairly recently. And today I ended up reading the sad news of real inferno in London. Hope it will all blow over ASAP. RIP to those who lost their lives by misfortune.
