为什么说have dinner比eat dinner更好？

忙了一整天，Dora想约人下班后一起去家好餐厅享受一番，便对同事Sally说：「Let's eat dinner together. I know a restaurant nearby.」Sally听闻，笑笑地纠正她：「We have finished the work.Let's HAVE dinner, OK?」有些情况若用太「直接」的字词去表达，非但不会更精准，还可能曲解说话者的意思，以下试举三例：

【情境一】休假邀约友人小聚

要不要一起吃个晚餐？

（X）Wouldyou like to eat dinner with me？

（O）Would you like to have dinnerwith me？

说明：eat、have都是「吃」，但前者单纯指把食物放入嘴里吞下去，后者却有「享用」的意味，所以eat dinner会给人匆忙解决一顿的感受，在这种情境下用have dinner才合适。

例：The coming Friday will be my day off. Would you like tohave lunch with me？（礼拜五我不用上班，要不要一起吃个午饭？）

【情境二】告知出差时的住所

我会住在朋友家。

（X）I will live with a friend.

（O）I will stay with a friend.

说明：出差这几天你确实是与朋友同「住」，但用live这个字会让人误以为是长期居住，stay才是指短期性的停留。

例：I just found out that I have to go to Chicago on businessfor a week. I think I will stay with a friend during this period.（我刚刚才知道我必须去芝加哥出差一星期，我想这段期间我会住在朋友家。）

【情境三】强调工作最后期限

2月15日是到期日，不可延期。

（X）February 15 is the due date. Youcan't ask for an extension.

（O）February 15 is the harddeadline. You can't ask for an extension.

说明：due date是「到期日」没错，但它属于soft deadline，亦即「建议」的交期，在此日期之后交件也许还可被接受。由于第二句已说明无法延期，因此用due date不精确。

例：You must hand in your proposal by Friday, which is thehard deadline.（你必须在周五前交出提案，那是最后期限。）
