看仔细了！'call you names'可不是喊你名字，用错就误会大了！

Not my call.

这里的call = a decision that you have to make，Not my call.意思就是我说了不算、不由我决定。

I know it is not my call, but just an idea I am throwing out for us to discuss. 

我知道这个不是我能决定的，我只是提一个可供讨论的建议。

You make the call

'You make the call'和'Not my call'两个call意思是相同的，'make the call'实际上表示决定。

当call表示电话时，make the call意思是拨打电话。

Good call

Good call可不是表示好电话，听着也太奇怪了吧！实际上good call=a good decision or idea，表示赞同的态度，意思是说得好、好主意。

call the shots

call the shots在口语中经常出现，和射击并没有关系，实际意思是发号施令、做决定、做主。

You've got the money, but I want to call the shots. 

你是有钱，但我才是做主的。

l call shotgun！

当你和一群外国朋友驾车出去玩的时候，会听到有人喊：I call shotgun！意思是我要坐副驾驶座。

这个说法源于美国西部，当时治安很乱，为了保护安全，乘马车时坐在驾驶位旁边的人，会负责拿着一把猎枪防守。所以后来I call shotgun就演变成“我要坐副驾驶”的意思了。

close call

close call可不是附近的电话，实际上意思是千钧一发、险象环生。

但call是复数形式，变成close calls，意思就更多了。close calls除了表示惊险的时刻，还有比分接近的比赛、侥幸脱险的意思。

You were just in time. Whew! What a close call. 

你可真及时。嚯，真是好险呢！

Sooner or later, his luck is going to run out. He's had too many close calls.

迟早他的运气会走光的。他已经侥幸脱险好多次了。

call someone names

看到call someone names，大家肯定会认为是叫某人名字，但看仔细哦！叫某人名字是call one's name，区别在于中间one's / someone；name是单复数不同。

call someone names实际意思辱骂某人，和它相关的词组是name name = 指名道姓。

call it a day

call it a day意思是今天到此为止，收工，就此结束。
