'How old are you !'不只是在问年龄？外国人听到很崩溃...

用age表达一个人的年龄有几种用法。

首先是at age ...，意思是在...岁时，这里是没有介词的，直接age后面加上数字。加上物主代词one's，变成了at my/your (...) age = when you are as old as me...，在某人...岁的时候。

而... years of age = ...years old表示...岁。可以搭配介词at，at ... years of age，在...岁时。

over/under the age of...意思就是超过/低于...岁。for one's (...) age意思是在同龄人中，就某人的年龄而言。

In Britain, schooling starts at age 5.

在英国，5岁开始上学。

She was just over 16 years of age.

她刚刚过16岁。

She’s tall for her age, isn’t she?

在她这个年纪她长得算高的，不是吗？

How old are you不能乱问的！

大家问别人年龄常说的是How old are you？，how old要比age常用的多。大家肯定不会说What age are you?。

另外要注意的是，对外国人，尤其是对女性来说，年龄是不太好谈的话题。直接问别人How old are you有些不太礼貌，我们可以委婉地说：

Which year were you born?

你是哪年出生的。

Would you mind telling me your age?

你介意告诉我你的年龄吗？

如果听到外国朋友老是对你说how old are you，就要注意了！这可能不是在问你的年龄，而是在说真幼稚、你多大了还干这事”！

under age究竟是几岁呢？

age除了表示年龄，还可以理解为法定年龄，the age when you are legally old enough to do sth。

所以under age就是指未到法定年龄、未成年，而come of age就是成年、成熟、达到法定年龄的意思。

他再过一个星期就成年了。

in this day and age是什么时候呢？

in this day and age意思是当今、在现在这个时代，就相当于nowadays。

这里的age是指时代、时期，英文释义是a particular period of history。比如golden age意思就是盛世、黄金时代，new age就是新时代......

再比如一些特定的历史时期，冰河世纪the Ice Age，中世纪the Middle Age，维多利亚时期the Victorian age......
