【原】【每日一练】“万能”的one

不知道大家注意过没有，英文中有个全能词，one，它有很多用法，我们今天只讲其作为一个名词性的代词用法，它可以被用来指代很多东西。

从语法上来讲，我们使用one指代某样东西，通常是在有前文提到该事物的时候。如：

I’d like an ice cream. Are you having one, too?

我想吃个冰淇淋。你也来一个吗？

Your plan is a good one.

你的计划很好。

I’m only using this car until I can buy a better one.

在没能没到更好的车之前，我就用这部车了。

A: The meeting will begin.

会议就要开始了。

B: It’s gonna be a hard one.

这次会议会很艰难。

I haven’t started at all for the exam.
It’s gonna be a tough one.

我现在还没开始准备考试呢。一定会很难。

而在口语中，one可以脱离上下文，而指代大家都熟知的某样东西。最常见的是，用于指“a day”。

【这句话等于：Have a good day / morning / afternoon/ evening.
根据不同的时间，选择不同的意思理解吧。】

It’s gonna be a cold one.

今天会很冷。

According to the weather forecast,
it’s going be a hot one.

天气预报说，今天会很热。

It’s only 8 am, and I’ve got
a hundred emails already.
It’s gonna be a long one today.

早上8点钟我就已经收到100封电邮了！
今天一定会很漫长。

可以用来指笑话、妙语、想法或问题等，比如你可以说：

OK, here’s a good one.

可以了，我有个好笑话/好主意。

Did you hear the one about the American
who goes into a bar in Paris?

你有没有听过那个
美国人进了巴黎一家酒吧的笑话啊？

【“the one about”是固定用法，
指“关于……的笑话”。】

A: What do you attribute your success to?

你的成功归因于什么呢？

B: Oh that's a difficult one.

哦，这个问题不好回答。

还可以指喝的一杯酒：

Do you have time for a quick one before you go?

有没空走之前去快速喝一杯？

还可以指某一类人，这时一般前面会加上形容词little/young/smart/lucky等：

She’s got four little ones.

她有四个孩子。

The smart ones always come out on top.

聪明人总是能出人头地。
