最近台风“烟花”肆虐，又让我们见识了一下大自然的厉害之处。

每年到了夏天，南方人民就要提防台风，特别是比较瘦的同学，生活在夏天的南方太难了，天天害怕出门被刮走。

今天我们就一起来聊聊台风相关的英文表达。

什么是台风

台风是一种热带风暴。

过去我国习惯称形成于26℃以上热带洋面上的热带气旋（Tropical cyclones）为台风，按照其强度，分为六个等级：

Tropical cyclones

热带低压（Tropical depression）；热带风暴（Tropical storm）；强热带风暴（Severe tropical storm）；台风（Typhoon）；强台风（Severe typhoon）；超强台风（Super Typhoon）

台风的结构，从中心向外依次分为：台风眼区Typhoon eye area、云墙区Cloud wall area、螺旋雨带区Rainband spiral.

台风的危害和好处

伴随台风来的不止雨水，还会引发很多其他灾害。

但是，

Typhoons keep the cold and heat in balance around the world. The climate in the equatorial region is hot. If typhoons did not dissipate these heat, the tropics would be hotter, the cold zone would be colder, and the temperate zone would disappear from the earth.

台风使世界各地冷热保持相对均衡。赤道地区气候炎热，若不是台风驱散这些热量，热带会更热，寒带会更冷，温带也会从地球上消失。

防范台风的危害

台风作为一种自然现象，我们无法阻止，但做好应对措施，减少台风带来的危害，防范于未然，是我们的必修课。

这次受台风“烟花”影响，上海发布橙色预警(Issue orange alert);取消轮渡和航班（Cancellation of ferries and flights)；地铁停运(Metro outage)；各类运营场所关门的关门(close)，不关门的也堆起了防汛物资(Flood control materials)；企业考虑到上下班路上的安全问题，给员工放假，这个假我们称之为台风假。

Typhoon Day (Off)台风假

台风来袭时，当风力及雨量达到一定水平，各县市政府就会宣布放台风假。在英文中，台风假的说法为typhoon day或typhoon day-off。

除此之外，个人还要注意

Stock up on food, close the doors and windows, stay home and sleep with a quit wrapped up tight.
