原版英语英译英微阅读：“(观点)站不住脚”和hold water 别忘了：英语是学来让我们“指向”更多英语的。这是“本”。 1) 我们先看“原文”：What does it mean? 1.This argument just won't hold water. 2. Your reasons for quitting the job don't hold water. 一般人都是这么“学”英语的： #一课译词# 当我们形容一种观点或理论“经不起推敲与反驳、存在漏洞”时，常常说这种观点是“站不住脚的”，英文中也有类似的表达：“not hold water”，表示“to not be or not appear to be true, verifiable, or able to be supported by facts” 我们学习或者训练我们英语的目的，是侧重于训练和拓展我们英语的“张力”，也就是让一句英语词或句“指向”更多英语的能力，而不是仅仅停留在英汉，或者汉英词对词，句对句单一“对等”上的学习与记忆。 1.当很多人只停留在让中文“(观点等)站不住脚”去对等英语not hold water时，我们已经“拓展”英语hold water的“张力”：指向更多英语：I think if what you say does not hold water,it doesn't make sense,your opinion,your word,what you say can't justify itself=doesn't sound reasonable/sensable/convincing. 我们实现了英语 not hold water,it doesn't make sense,your opinion,your word,what you say can't justify itself等英语之间的互为解释，互为理解和互为记忆，也算是实现了自己的“英语思维”能力，而不是仅仅“知道”：中文站不住脚就是英语not hild water，而英语not hold water就是中文not hold water就没别的了。 “学了”英语not hold water而“不知”、不能“指向”更多英语：从hold water继而 到doesn't make sense,your opinion,your word,what you say can't justify itself等(反之亦然)，不能说你“学并学好”了英语：中文思维下的英语学习，学了忘，忘了学是大概率事情。 而一旦经过长期训练获得这种“张力”和“指向”能力后，你会发现：在想表达某句中文意思时，我们在“英语这一侧”，我们英语的表达选择上就游刃有余。 要“精通”某种语言(英语)，让英语“指向”更多英语，是学并学好英语的基本功，也是防止英语“学时没环境”，“用时又没有环境从而学了忘，忘了学”的最有效和有利手段。 即使我们“学习”我们的母语中文，“站不住脚”我也是用“别的”中文互为解释互为理解的：不能自圆其说，不能服人，经不起推敲。 2) 口语训练：Okay.I got you. Okay.I got you.When we say what you say does not hold water,we can also say it doesn't make sense,your opinion,your word,what you say can't justify itself=doesn't sound reasonable/sensable/convincing.
