It's A Division Day

It's a division day. Maybe yes.Maybe not.

My friend doctor with certainty told me on the other side of the line: be cautious! don't make hasty decision!

Another friend made this suggestion and that suggestion, voice brimful with concerns.

A doctor in a provincial hospital consoled me: "it's not serious judging from the report of laryngoscope. Don't worry, my teacher! I'll give the report of laryngoscope to the expert in my hospital and then let him give you concrete suggestions. If you would like to come to the capital city to have a further examination and have an operation on your throat, I will take you to the hospital which is famous for its throat operation. Take it easy!"

All these things happened this afternoon when I came back from the hospital where I had an examination on the throat.

My wife and I both thought it was just the usual strep throat which teachers have generally for the job but the usual medicine that I took for two weeks didn't work this time. So we decided to have the throat examined. The doctor immediately suggested I should have a laryngoscope examination after we described the symptoms to him.

His assistant sprayed a kind of liquid medicine into my nostrils and after a while she did it for the second time. The doctor took us to the room where the examination would be done. On the way there, the kind and gentle middle-aged doctor told me:"The room is on another building and there is a doctor there who does the examination specifically but I will do it for you today since it happens to have fewer patients today than usual." So lucky I was! You know, the doctor named Wang Zhenbang is the best one in the hospital in this field!

When I lay down on the examination bed, I became a little nervous. The doctor said softly and calmly to me: breathe as usual. I did what I was told. There was a moment when I felt a sense of vomiting but I tried to restrain it and fortunately it disappeared in no time. Before the doctor finished typing the report, I stood beside his desk and said nothing. I didn't ask him how it was. I was waiting for the result meanwhile it seemed that I was refusing to know the result.

"There is a polyp a grain of rice on the vocal cords"said the doctor, calmly and softly. His voice made me feel relaxed and comfortable as if it were a little cold and easily cured.

"You need an operation on it. It depends on you who does the operation, either the doctor of this hospital or the expert from the provincial hospital."

I'm not sure! I can't imagine the life without voice! It is said that some patients lost their voices after the operarion because the vocal cords were damaged during the operation. If the same thing happened to me, I were to lose the chance to teach perpetually! Even I still can have my voice left, I am not fit for the platform. Whether the operation will be successful decide how the rest of my life goes.

So many ideas rushed in and out of my mind. It's a division day. Yes, a 100 percent division day. Maybe I should make some changes from today on. But what changes I'm not sure!

Please, God my lord, bless me! Only you are my refuge!
