Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, and marks the end of New Year festivities. 元宵节是农历的元月十五，标志着新年庆祝的结束。
所以在英语里，元宵节直译就是“灯笼节”，之所以叫这个名字，跟元宵节的来源有很大的关系。 汉朝人认为，在农历的第一个月圆之夜，也就是元宵节这晚，可以看到天上的神灵。 In Han Dynasty, people believe that celestial spirits could be seen flying about in the light of the first full moon of the lunar calendar.
为了更容易找到这些神灵，人们会点一些火把照明，后来火把就被各种各样的灯笼取代了。 In order to search for the spirits, people used torches to light the sky, which are later replaced by all kinds of lanterns.
