Paying a Home Visit to Three Students

I decided to pay a family visit to three students. This is an assigned task as well as what I like to do. If something you are required to do is coincidently what you like to do, you have a much stronger driving force to do so. Without hesitation, I rode my bike to find them one by one.The first student I decided to pay a home visit is Duo Ding, who is my subject representative, responsible and dedicated. I appreciate it that he works hard at English and is devoted to his duty, taking much care of the business concerned with the subject. As I thought of what he did for his English learning and his work as a subject representative, I arrived at his yard. Before setting off, I had made a telephone call to his mother. And now I had to call her again to find his apartment. Quickly I came to his home. He had just got up and had not finished his washing. I sat down on the sofa, waiting for him. His mother began to complain about his habit of going late to bed, late to rise. He would study till 2 o’clock and sleep till 9 o’clock the next morning. And then she complained to me that her son would not work hard at physics and did little homework on it. A mum in anxiety! A typical mother in China. I asked Duo Ding about his attitude to physics learning. He told me that he was not so confident in it, which was his biggest problem. I had to encourage him to throw himself into studying physics. Helping a student find back his confidence in a subject is really important and crucial. After a short conversation about it, I saw him nod, promising me that he would solve his problem. I felt comfortable about it. Then I, along with Duo Ding, came to Yan Chao’s, who lives near to Duo Ding. She was alone and it seemed that she got up not long ago. A moment later, her mother came back since we had telephoned her before we set out to find her house. Hardly had she sat down when she began to complain about her wasting time listening to music for almost two hours after she got up at seven and then fell asleep. Since her problem lied in time management, I mentioned that I learned from one of my closest friend how to do time management. You can write down what you plan to do for a day or for a week, then execute them. When one is accomplished, you tick it out and you can also write down what impress you most and the greatest achievements. I seriously told her the story and told her that even as old as me, I learned from this friend of mine and began to do the same thing, let alone a student so young like her! She promised to learn to do so. I felt satisfied. After the home visit at Yan Chao, I phoned some others but I was told that either they couldn’t get in touch with the student as they were out or they couldn’t come back home as they were making a doctor-seeing trip or things like that. Finally, we got in touch with the parents of Xi Ru, and we set out to go there. It was not easy to find his home. We even entered a wrong house and felt so embarrassed. When we knocked the door, Xi Ru answered the door. His mother had not arrived yet. When we were talking, his mother came back as well as his father. Xi Ru Was asked to take out his exercise book to let me have a look at it. I found he had finished the exercise but he only wrote A or B or C or D in the blanks without looking up his dictionary and writing down the explanation of a strange word in English, nor any marks of his thinking process, which couldn’t satisfy my requirement and I immediately pointed out his problem. He smiled to receive my criticism. And then we talked about some youth troubles they had: the biggest one is mum’s talking too much. I told them Duo Ding and Xi Ru that they should take actions positively to deal with the issue. If they behave to let their parents feel relieved, they will solve the problem easily and find they can rebuild a better relationship with their parents who would complain less but care about them more. They both agreed with me and promised to try their best to deal with it. I felt satisfied and happy, feeling a sense of achievement. Let God bless them!
