▍order

order有“命令；指挥；要求”的意思。to use your posotion of authority to tell sb to do sth or say that sth must happen.利用某人在权力机构的职务让某人做某事或者要求某事必须发生。剧中，丈夫想让妻子陪他一起参加商务宴会，然而妻子却并不想参加。’order sb to do sth’意思是“命令/指挥某人做某事”。

’order sb around’意思是“指挥/命令某人”。around有“在...四周；到处”的意思。想象一下，一个人在你周围，不停地对你发号施令，这就叫’order sb around’

这是生意，塔纳卡希望每个人都带家属出席。

▍expect

expect基本意思是“预料；预期；预计”，to think or believe that sth will happen or that sb will do sth认为并且相信某事会发生，或者某人或做某事。

expect还有“等待；期待；盼望”的意思。to be waiting for sb/sth to arrive, as this has been arranged.等待某人的到来，或者某件事的发生，因为这是安排好的。expect sb就是“期待某人的到来”，因为之前有所安排。expect a call等待某人的电话。expect a visit期待某人的来访。

expect sb to do sth意思是“期待/盼望某人做某事”。

Every time around that man, he tries to grab my ass.

I’ve made over 200,000 doing business with him last year. If he wants to grab your ass, you let him.

每次我在那男人周围，他都想捏我的屁股。

去年我从他那赚了二十万，如果他想捏你的屁股，让他捏。

▍grab

grab表示“抓住”。If you grab something, you take it or pick it up suddenly and roughly. 突然粗暴地拿起或捡起。

grab还有一个常用意思，就是“匆忙地做”。If you grab something such as food, drink, or sleep, you manage to get some quickly.很快速地吃点，喝点或者睡会。grab a coffee快速喝杯咖啡，grab a bite随意吃点，grab a couple of hours’ sleep抓紧睡两个钟头，grab some water喝几口水。

Mr. Solis, you scared me.

Why is that bush there? You were supposed to dig it up last week.

索利斯先生，你吓到我了。

那怎么还有杂草？你上周就应该除掉的。

▍scare

scare表示“使惊恐；使害怕；使恐惧”。to frighten sb惊吓到某人。scare sb惊吓某人。

scare有两种变形，scary和scared。scary用来形容那些引起人害怕的人，事情，或者物品，可以理解为“恐怖的；吓人的”。scared表示人感到害怕，是形容人的心理状态。可以理解为“吓坏的；害怕的”。

比如，你走进了一栋百年无人老宅，宅子由于长期无人居住和打理，看起来十分荒凉和吓人。那么这个看着有点恐怖的老宅可以用scary来形容，a scary old house一个吓人的老宅。

你壮着胆子走了进去，想看看里面的样貌。走着走着，空气开始变得浑浊，你有点喘不过气，不禁吓得毛骨悚然。这时候你可以用scard来形容自己内心的恐惧。I was so scared as I was walking into the house.我走进房子，感到很害怕。

I didn’t have time.

I don’t want to hear your excuses. Just take care of it.

我没有时间。

我不想听你的借口。把它处理好。

▍excuse

excuse作名词，表示“借口；理由；辩解”。

excuse作动词可以表示“原谅；宽恕”。to forgive sb for sth that they have done, for example not being polite or making a small mistake.原谅对方的不礼貌和犯下的错。常见短语为：excuse sth原谅某事；excuse sb(for sth/for doing sth)原谅某人（某事或做了某事）

excuse和forgive区别？excuse和forgive都有“原谅”的意思，但是excuse语气较轻，用法广泛；forgive语气较重，含有“不再追究，不再生气”的意思。

常用短语：forgive sth原谅某事；forgive sb原谅某人；forgive sb for sth/doing sth原谅某人某事/做某事。

I really hate the way you talk to me.

And I hate that I spent $15,000 on your diamond necklace,which you couldn’t live without. But I’m learning to deal with it. So can I tell Tanaka we’ll be there tomorrow night？

我讨厌你跟我说话的语气。

我讨厌花一万五千块买条没它你就活不下去的钻石项链。但是我学会接受了。我能告诉塔纳卡明晚我们都去吗？

▍way

way在这里表示“方式；方法”。the way he eats他吃饭的样子，the way he treats me他对待我的方式，the way you exercise你运动的方式。剧中，the way you talk to me就是“你和我说话的样子”。

▍spend

spend在这里表示“花费”。主语是人，常用短语：sb spend+money+on sth/(in)doing sth表示“在某方面花钱/花钱做某事”。剧中，I spent $15,000 on your diamond necklace.就是“我在你的钻石项链上花了1万5千美元”。后面的which you couldn’t live without是对diamond necklace的补充。什么样的钻石项链？没有的话你就不能活的钻石项链！

without表示“没有；不”。有一首歌叫《Without You》。里面有句歌词：I can’t live if living without you.意思就是“没有你，我活不下去”。

我们继续回到sepnd，spend除了可以表示“花钱”，还可以表示“花时间；度过”。to use time for a particular purpose为了一个特定的目标花时间。常用短语：spend+一段时间+on sth/(in)doing sth，表示“花...时间在某事上/花...时间做某事”。

spend还可以表示“用尽精力；付出努力”。to useenergy, effortdoing something花精力和努力做某事。常用短语：spend+energy/effort on sth/(in)doing sth.

▍deal with

deal with的意思有很多，最常用的是表示“处理；应付”。比如：The manager needs to deal with the customer’s complaint.经理需要处理客户的投诉。但是在剧中，deal with是表示“接受”，接受或试图接受无法改变的事实。比如：She is still trying to deal with the loss of her loved one.

她仍然在努力接受失去爱人的事实。

John, we have bandages top shelf in the kitchen.

Thanks, Mrs. Solis.

Fine, I’ll go. But I’m keeping my back pressed against the wall the entire time.

▍keep+sb/sth+adj

这个短语表示使某人/某物保持某样或者某种状态。比如：Keep the door open.使门处在开着的状态，就是不要关门。keep the room clean保持房间整洁。keep me informed保持通知我。剧中，keep my back pressed against the wall就是“保持我的背部贴着墙”，也就是“贴墙站”。press against有“紧贴”的意思。

the entire time表示“整个过程中”。相当于“the whole time”。

This is what...is all about.表示“这就是...的真谛/意义所在”。比如：This is What having kids is all about.这就是生孩子的意义所在。This is what making money is all about.这就是赚钱的意义。This is what a family is all about.这就是家庭的意义所在。

▍compromise

compromise表示“妥协；让步；折中”。既是名词，也是动词。

compromise作名词时常用短语有：reach a compromise达成妥协，make a compromise做出让步，work out a compromise找到一个折中的办法。

compromise作动词的常用短语：compromise with sb on sth和某人就某事达成妥协。
