如:see (看见) , hear (听见) , feel (感觉出) , taste (尝出) , smell (闻到) , notice,observe等。 误:The medicine is tasting bitter. 正:The medicine tastes bitter. 误:I was seeing a car passing by our house. 正:I saw a car passing by our house. 误:This cake is smelling wonderful. 正:This cake smells wonderful. 误:He is hearing much better after an operation. 正:He hears much better after an operation.
(1)这些动词之所以不用于进行时态,是因为这些感官的感觉是无意识的。如果这些动词表示有意识的行为,则可以用于进行时态,此时词义也发生了变化。试比较:
① She was smelling scent at one counter while I was buying some medicine at another. 她在一个柜台闻着香水,我在另一个柜台买药。(此处smell为有意识的行为,意为“闻”,所以用进行时态) ② I smell something burning in the kitchen. 我闻到厨房里有东西烧焦了。(此处smell表示无意识的行为,意为“闻到”,所以不用进行时态)
(2)当这些不用于进行时态的动词词义发生了变化,也可以用于进行时态。例如:
① I shall be hearing some new applications for the choir this afternoon. 今天下午我将对新加入合唱队的人进行审听。(此处hear意为“审听”) ② How are you feeling now? 你今天感觉如何?(此处feel表示身体状况和心情) ③ He is seeing a client at 2:30. 他两点半要见一位客户。(此处see意为“会见”) 
如:believe, doubt, feel (= have an opinion), hate, image, know, (dis)like, love, prefer, realize, appreciate, recognize, remember, see (= understand), suppose, think (= have an opinion), understand, want, wish等。如:
误:I’m feeling it necessary to tell her about it. 正:I feel it necessary to tell her about it.(此处feel 意为“认为”) 误:I am appreciating your help very much. 正:I appreciate your help very much. (此处appreciate意为“感激”) 误:I am thinking this is their house, but I’m not sure. 正:I think this is their house, but I’m not sure. (此处think意为“认为”)

如:agree, appear, astonish, deny, disagree, impress, look (= seem), mean, please, promise, satisfy, seem,surprise等。如: 误:— The service in the restaurant is terrible. — I’m quite agreeing. 正:— The service in the restaurant is terrible. — I quite agree. 误:It was surprising me that such a little boy of seven could play the piano so well. 正:It surprised me that such a little boy of seven could play the piano so well.

如:be, belong, concern, consist, contain, depend, deserve, fit, include, involve, lack, matter, measure (= have length etc.), need, owe, own, possess, weigh (= have weight)。
误:Some of the stamps are belonging to me, while the rest are his and hers.
正:Some of the stamps belong to me, while the rest are his and hers. 误:He’s a responsible writer, and he is deserving to be respected. 正:He’s a responsible writer, and he deserves to be respected. 误:The room is measuring 10 meters across. 正:The room measures 10 meters across.
