As a person who writes about food and drink for a living. I couldn’t tell you the first thing about Bill Perry or whether the beers he sells are that great. But I can tell you that I like this guy. That’s because he plans to ban tipping in favor of paying his servers an actual living wage.

I hate tipping. I hate it because it’s an obligation disguised as an option. I hate it for the post-dinner math it requires of me. But mostly, I hate tipping because I believe I would be in a better place if pay decisions regarding employees were simply left up to their employers, as is the custom in virtually every other industry.

1

As a person /who writes about/food and drink /for a living, I couldn’t /tell /you /the first thing /about Bill Perry /or whether the beers/ he sells are /that great.

2. whether the beers/ he sells are /that great,其中首先要注意whetherif的区别。

I wonder if / whether I can get some advice from you.

1whether引导的从句常可以与连词oror not直接连用,if一般不能;

3whether可以引导带to的不定式,if则不能;

4whether及其引导的成分可放于介词之后,作介词的宾语,if不能;

2

But I can /tell you /that I/like this guy. That’s/ because /he plans to /ban tipping /in favor of /paying his servers /an actual living wage.

1.  I can tell you that…

Are you in favor of this new project

I am in favor of stopping work now.

The Prime Minister resigned in favor of a better candidate

3

I hate tipping. I hate it because it’s an obligation disguised as an option.

4

I hate it for the post-dinner math it requires of me.

5

But mostly, I hate tipping because I believe I would be in a better place if pay decisions regarding employees were simply left up to their employers, as is the custom in virtually every other industry.

If I were you, I would invite him to the party

I would have arrived much earlier if I had not been caught in the traffic
