大火肆虐至今至少有25人死亡，过火面积超过600万公顷，2000多所房屋被毁，当地数以千计的民众被迫离开家园。 
英国《每日电讯报》称，受火灾影响，目前大火已导致至少25000只考拉死亡。
近日，一张看起来像是澳大利亚全境都处于火海之中的照片在媒体上疯狂传播。
实际上，这是艺术家安东尼·赫西(Anthony Hearsey)根据2019年12月5日至2020年1月5日这一个月发现火灾地点的数据进行的3D可视化处理。赫西向媒体解释：“由于渲染的发光，所以让它看起来有点夸张...还要注意的是，并非图片显示的所有地区都还在燃烧。”

Australia’s massive bushfires have shocked people around the world and led to an outpouring of sympathy and donations.While images of the fire have drawn interest worldwide, not all of them are quite what they seem.A Brisbane photographer whose 3D visualisation of the fires went viral, had to explain the picture was not a photo and actually showed fire hotspots over a month from December 5 until January 5.
