My life is a story of the self-realization of
the unconscious. Everything in the unconscious seeks outward manifestation, and
the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions and to
experience itself as a whole. I cannot employ the language of science to trace
this process of growth in myself, for I cannot experience myself as a scientific
problem.What we are to our inward vision, and what
man appears to be sub specie aeternitatis,
can only be expressed by way of myth. Myth is more individual and expresses
life more precisely than does science. Science works with concepts of averages
which are far too general to do justice to the subjective variety of an
individual life.Thus it is that I have now undertaken, in
my eighty-third year, to tell my personal myth. I can only make direct
statements, only “tell stories.” Whether or not the stories are “true” is not
the problem. The only question is whether what I tell is my fable, my myth. (C.

我的整个人生是一个潜意识自我充分发挥的过程。潜意识里的一切竭力作出种种的外在性表现，而我的人格也逐渐从潜意识状态中成长起来，作为一个整体来体验自身。用科学的语言不足以追溯我的这一成长过程，因为我不认为这是一个学术的问题。对于我们内在的体验和永恒方面的存在，那只能通过神话的方式来加以表达。神话是寓于个人性的，它能比科学还要精确地表现人生。科学以概念来进行工作，这样的概念太过于普通化，因而对不同主体的个人生活的解释过于概念化了。而今，我八十三岁了，我想承担起讲述我那个人神话的责任。我只能作些直接的表述，只是“讲讲我的故事”。这些故事都是真实的。唯一的问题是我所讲的是否是我的语言，我的神话。（[瑞士]荣格，《荣格自传》，戴光年译，武汉：武汉出版社，2014年，第1页。）
