 第一章 原文： 道可道，非恒道；名可名，非恒名。无名，万物之始。有名，万物之母。故，恒无欲，以观其妙。恒有欲，以观其徼。两者同出，异名同谓。玄之又玄，众妙之门。 现代汉语： 可言说的道，并非恒久的道；可以指称的名，并非恒久的名。无可指称的名，乃是万物创造之始；可以指称的名，乃是万物得以成长的源头。因此，要认识内在的奥妙，就要恒久无欲；要认识外在的奥妙，就要恒久有欲。这是玄妙之中的玄妙，也是一切奥秘的门径。 英文： The uttered Dao is not the eternal Dao; the named name is not the eternal name. The nameless is the origin of creation; the named, mother of all creatures. Therefore, to see the inner mystery, one must be of no desire; to see the outer mystery, one must be of enduring desire. The two came into being simultaneously, but were given different names.
