【原】英语写作 | “举个例子”，我们有哪些transition words来用

今天来兑现Additive transition words类别下的第二种功能：introduction。

Additive transition words除了addition（补充同类或递进信息）功能外，还有introduction的功能。

Introduction (举例/阐述）

那么具体这个introduction function是什么意思呢？

我们可以把它理解为explanatory or illustrative transition words。就是用来引入例子或阐述解释某个要点的过渡词。

用来为前述内容引入例子的transition words：

Such as: 

使用小贴士：正式的写作中，such as后面有超过三个以上的例子，通常需要在such as前加逗号，否则就不需要；还可以把such as拎出来单独写个句子。

Wild flowers such as primroses are becoming rare.  报春花之类的野花越来越稀罕了。 

The shop specialises in tropical fruits, such as pineapples, mangoes and papayas. 这个店主营热带水果，比如菠萝、芒果、木瓜。

Fruits are good for our health. Such as apples, oranges, and bananas, are all healthy fruits to include in our daily diet. 水果有益健康。像苹果、橘子、香蕉这些有益健康的水果都可以加入我们的日常饮食中。

Like: 

The neglect that large cities like New York have received over the past 12 years is tremendous.  

诸如纽约这样的大城市在过去12年里所受到的忽视是巨大的。

Including: 

Thousands were killed, including many women and children.

数千人被杀，包括许多妇女和儿童。

As an illustration:

As an illustration, many people are afraid of public speaking because they worry about being judged by others.

举个例子，许多人害怕公开演讲是因为他们担心被他人评价。

By way of illustration:

Let me, by way of illustration , quote from one of her poems. 

作为说明，让我援引她的一首诗。

To illustrate:

To illustrate, cooking can be a fun and rewarding hobby for those who enjoy creating new recipes and experimenting with flavors.

举个例子，对于那些喜欢创造新菜谱并尝试各种口味的人来说，烹饪可以是一项有趣且有回报的爱好。

For example:

There is a similar word in many languages, for example in French and Italian. 

许多语言，譬如法语和意大利语，都有相似的词。

For instance: 

In sub-Saharan Africa today, for instance, gross investment accounts for roughly 15% of national income.

例如，在如今的撒哈拉以南的非洲国家，总投资大约占国民收入的15％。

用来阐述详细说明某个要点的transition words：

(也可以说是用来引入更细节的信息）

Particularly: 

I enjoyed the play, particularly the second half. 

我很欣赏那场比赛，特别是下半场。

In particular:

I like sports. In particular, I enjoy playing tennis because it provides me with a satisfying physical workout and a mental challenge.

我们喜欢运动。特别是，我喜欢打网球因为它提供了令人满意的身体锻炼和挑战我的头脑。

Especially: 

I love traveling, especially to exotic places where I can experience new cultures and try different types of food.

我喜欢旅行，特别是去一些异国情调的地方，在那里体验新的文化和尝试不同类型的食物。

Notably: 

The divorce would be granted when more important problems, notably the fate of the children, had been decided.

当更重要的问题，尤其是孩子们的命运被决定时，离婚就会获得批准。

Namely:

We need to concentrate on our target audience, namely women aged between 20 and 30. 

我们须针对我们的听众对象，即年龄在20到30岁之间的妇女。

That is （to say）：

I am a disappointing, though generally dutiful, student. That is, I do as I'm told.

我是个令人失望的学生，尽管一般来说我很听话，也就是说，我按别人说的做。

I have heard that many people enjoy spicy foods, that is to say, they like to feel the heat in their mouths.

我听说很多人喜欢辛辣食物，也就是说，他们喜欢在口中感受到辣味的刺激感。
