我们非常熟悉的单词——table

table除了桌子，还有一些别的意思

就比如“nine-nine table”

这可是小学一年级必须要掌握的知识

实际上，nine-nine table是九九乘法表，乘法表可以用times table表示，书面用语是multiplication table。

table除了桌子的意思外，还有一些别的意思和表达，我们一起重新认识一下这个熟悉的陌生词table吧！

table作动词，常用于美语，意思是搁置提议或计划。

例子

很多东西都可以on the table

on the table直译就是在桌子上，可以引申为公开地，相反off the table就是指不予讨论、离开桌面。

We know they can't sign an illegal agreement, but let's take that off the table.

at the table是指在餐桌前、坐在餐桌旁，不一定在吃饭，也可以引申为在谈判中；而at table是指吃饭、就餐，强调”吃饭“这个动作进行时。

round table

要说最出名的桌子，除了最后的晚餐中那张大长桌，小八马上就想到了亚瑟王King  Arthur的大圆桌，在圆桌上诞生了一群忠诚的圆桌骑士Knights of the Round table。

round table引申意就是多人间的公开讨论、会议，通常是人人可以对话、平等的会议。round-table是形容词，意思是圆桌的，协商的，非正式的。

例子
