Fu教授是美国国家科学院和美国艺术与科学院两院院士，目前是加州理工学院化学系Altair讲席教授。 Fu教授于1985年在麻省理工学院获得学士学位（导师是2001年诺贝尔化学奖得主K. B. Sharpless教授）；1991年在美国哈佛大学获得博士学位（导师是D. A. Evans教授)，1991年-1993年在加州理工学院R. H. Grubbs教授（2005年诺贝尔化学奖得主）课题组从事博士后研究。1993-2012年于麻省理工学院工作，历经助理教授、副教授，于1999年晋升为教授。2012年他作为教授加入加州理工学院。他曾获得过Elias J. Corey Award 和Arthur C.
