 What and How to Be a Good English Teacher

I’ve taught English for nearly twenty years since 2004. Most of the English teachers including me always think “what and how to be a good English teacher?”. I have thought a lot about the questions mentioned above. Now I will say something about them.

In my point of view, a good English teacher is a teacher who owns good pronunciation and intonation, which sound comfortablely for his or her pupils as well as set an example for them.

 Also, a good English teacher is a teacher who owns prfound professional knowledge of English. People often say: "To give students a glass of water, the teacher himself should have a bucket of water.”

Meanwhile, a good English teacher is a teacher who can organize the classroom flexiblely and effectively.

What’s more, a good English teacher owns certain basic abilities such as writing the words beautifully, drawing the sketches well, using the multimedia technologies freely and so on.

On the basis of the understandings above, I begin to know the ways to be a good English teacher clearly.

In order to be a good English teacher, you must have the habit of reading. You may read not only the books about English such as the “Standards of English Curriculum” “English Teaching Methodology” and so on, but also the books about “pedagogy” the“ psychology” and “information technology” as well. A good teacher must be a life-long learner. It’s never too old to learn and too late to learn.

In order to be a good English teacher, you must have the habit of practising. Only through teaching can you improve your ability of teaching and master the art of teaching. So, you must grasp every chance to make your class better and better. Try your best to attracte the attention of your pupils. Day by day, you will find yourself make great progress. As the saying goes, ”Practice makes perfect”. 

Besides, you must have the habit of learning. You can learn from the experienced teachers and experts. They can save us from detours. Step by step, by standing upon the shoulders of Giants, you can go further and further.

Beyond that, to be a good English teacher means you must be a good researcher. Find the problems in the class, write them down, and think over.

Combining some instances and incidents in your daily teaching, you can see what you want to research. Through this process, you can produce more and more ideas. 

“No pains, no gains. Diligence is the means by which one makes up for one's dullness.” If you want to be, please do; If you want to be better, do your best. Everyone, including me, is on the way to be better. There is never the best, only better.

因为凌哥编写的是《书写训练》,也就是常说的“字帖”,所以语篇类内容没有配上阅读理解题。可是,老师您完全可以自己配上相应的阅读理解题目啊!
