none＝not any; not one，可以指人，意为“没有什么人”；也可以指物，意为“没有任何东西“。它表示人们所谈到的人或物的多寡，即数量概念。如：

none指人：

None has left there.

没有一个人离开那儿。

None can match your sheer willpower and persistence in wearing down the opposition. 

在消磨反对派的意志方面，没有人能比得上你那惊人的意志力和不懈的坚持。

He called together all his employees and announced that the manager was none other than his son. 

他把所有的员工召集到一起，宣布经理不是别人，正是他的儿子。

none指物：

He wants me to lend him some money, but I have none at hand.

他想要我借些钱给他，但我现在手头上一个子儿也没有。

Health experts are now preaching that even a little exercise is far better than none at all.

现在健康专家都在宣扬，即使是少量的运动也远比根本不运动好得多。

He became convinced that his illness was purely imaginary that made it none the better. 

他逐渐相信了自己的病纯粹是想象出来的，但那也没有让他的病情有任何好转。

none后常接of短语

of后可接复数可数名词或代词，作主语时谓语动词用单、复数形式皆可。如：

none后接复数可数名词：

None of my friends know/knows about it.我的朋友没有一个人知道这件事。

We have three sons but none of them lives/live nearby.

我们有三个儿子，但他们都不住在附近。

None of these pens works/work.

这些钢笔没有一支能用。

none后接代词：

Jessica scanned the lines, none of which had any punctuation. 

杰茜卡把这几行飞快地扫了一眼，没有任何一行加了标点。

He argues very strongly that none of us has the right to sit in judgement. 

他激烈地争论说，我们中任何一个人都无权进行审判。

None of them can carry out even the simplest conversation in the foreign language they have been learning. 

他们当中没有谁能用所学的外语进行即便（是）最简单的会话。

of后也可接不可数名词或代词，这时谓语动词必须用单数形式。如：

none后接不可数名词：

None of this bread looks fresh.

这面包一点儿也不新鲜。

None of the work was done.

那些工作全都未干。

none后接代词：

My husband gave me cash to manage the household, but none of it was ever my own. 

丈夫给我钱来持家，但这些钱一毫一厘都不属于我。

It doesn’t matter. None of it was your fault.

没关系。都不是你的错。

注意：none指的是三者或三者以上的人或物中“没有一个”，如果指两者中“没有一个”应用neither。请比较：

none:

There are many apples in the basket, but none of them are of fresh.

篮子里有许多苹果，但没有一个是新鲜的。

None of these countries has found a way yet to get around the problem of the polarization of wealth. 

这些国家都还没有找到办法来解决贫富分化的问题。

neither:

Neither of his parents is at home.

他的父母都不在家。

We could run off together, but neither of us wants to live the rest of our lives abroad. 

我们可以一起私奔，但是我俩都不想在国外度过余生。

nothing＝not anything，意为“没有任何东西；没有什么”。它表示的是事物的种类。如：

Nothing is found on the table.

桌子上什么也没有。

Nothing is known as yet about what transpired at the meeting. 

会上到底发生了什么现在还没人知道。

Nothing is simpler than a cool white shirt. 

没有什么比穿一件质地轻薄的白衬衣更简洁的了。

no one＝nobody，只能指人，不能指物，语气比none强，后面不能接of构成的短语。no one作主语时，谓语动词只能用单数形式。如：

No one/Nobody likes a person with bad manners.

没有人喜欢不讲礼貌的人。

No one's going to hurt you. No one. Not any more. 

没有人会伤害你了，不会有人了，再也不会有了。

No one is absent. Everybody's here. 

人都到齐了，一个也不缺。

用于简略回答时，none用来回答由How many …和How much …引起的问句以及含“any(of)＋名词”构成的一般疑问句。

—How much water is there in the bottle?

瓶子里有多少水？

—None.

一点也没有。

no one/nobody用来回答Who …问句及含anybody构成的一般疑问句。

—Who will go to the party?

谁将去参加晚会？

—No one/Nobody.

没人去。

而nothing则用来回答What…问句及含anything构成的一般疑问句。如：

—What's on the table?

桌上有什么？

—Nothing.

什么也没有。
